Probably going with something like a 20’ with bunks..... I don’t wanna be to heavy bc I plan on having a dualsport or dirtbike in the bed sometimes. Really going to buckle down this fall and look heavy. Trying to figure out the smallest possible size with a Murphy bed up from and bunks..... would like a dinette slideout but we will see

    Dare I ask...?

edit: OK I cautiously Googled it, and now I understand! :D

That describes the 208BHS to a T. 20' with double over double bunks, queen murphy bed (optional), and dinette slideout. Also a big fan of the Adzel built walls after researching them. Surprised it isn't standard across the board!

I can honestly say that it REALLY helps when I am stuck behind one, esp on a bike. :bikewheelie2:

I tow a 6x10 dump trailer full of firewood weekly, many times a week with my ‘17 OR access cab MT.
That firewood trailer is 4-6000# depending.
    Air bags would be nice.
As far as the tranny/engine, the only thing I notice is having to rev it high. I doubt I’m below 4000 on normal shifts till I’m up to speed. There is no torque below 2000.
I’ve done the 2Lo mod. It’s awesome. About to delete the clutch accumulator.

manual tows better IMO. the auto with 3.90 gears hunts all over for gears. The Manual you can pull away from a stop with more grunt, 4.30 gears, and you can just hold a gear like 4th up a hill without the trans shifting up and down and up

Yeah that 2Lo mod looks mighty sweet for backing up trailers with the MT. I'm not much for cutting & splicing wires, but with that PnP kit they are making it seems super easy. Might have to sign up for that so I can have it when I get my travel trailer...

Debating about air bags vs. SumoSprings. I'm sure I'll go with one or the other, but thinking Sumo since there is basically zero maintenance once they are in. I'd definitely be running WDH with it though either way. Have you modded your suspension at all or just use the stock setup? With Sumo (or bags) + WDH, hoping that the stock is decent enough to handling towing something like that.

Sumos are nice. Quick, easy and don’t have to worry. Ran those on my 16.

A better shock helps too. Swapping my rears put an end to the oscillation you’ll get on the highway.

A lot of it depends on how much weight you are gonna have. I’ve done up to 3500 lbs ish having just replaced the rear shocks and run it all over the country with no complaints.

If you are going to be running WDH, I’d start with the shocks and see how it tows. Just the rears was like $250 and an hour of work moving slow.

The TTs I'm looking at are around 4000-4600# dry plus gear etc. That's why I'm also wondering what @Thunder chicken was running since it sounds like his trailer that he was hauling around is right around that weight as well.

What shocks did you put in your rear end, that helped with towing?

I’ve got a 7x14 trailer I haul around. Going down the interstate there’s spots where you’ll get a lot of oscillation with the factory suspension. I’ve been running Fox 2.0 in the rear and it makes a huge difference with my setup.

Another thing to note is that @deusxanime has a Sport. I don't seem to have the same handling characteristics that OR folks seem to talk about, even without the swaybar? Of course, if / when a TT happens, towing will be done with the SB.

With zero intention of wanting to bring a up a divide (ORs, SRs, Pros, we all rock! :headbang: ), I feel the stock Sport suspension might be a good towing baseline?

The sport suspension is a little firmer but even then, the shocks are pretty wimpy when you get some weight for it to try and dampen. I had a picture of them side by side but I apparently deleted it. It’s a pretty huge different in diameter.

Good thing to point out. I always forget you have to keep that in mind with Sport vs. OR. The Sport is pretty stiff. You really feel the bumps and potholes, especially when the rear end goes over them! Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with OR to be a bit more comfortable and cushy.

I actually am probably going to trade my '19 for a '20 due to the upgrades and a few other minor things (yay high resale!), so was kind of wondering if having the OR would help or hinder with towing vs. the Sport. If I'm likely to be doing more on-road and towing instead of off-road shenanigans, think I'm better off sticking with a Sport or getting an OR instead when I swap to a new 2020?

    Haha!

I do agree that the Hitachis are questionable. With the sway bar gone, it just feels spooky good on and off road. I have found that swerves are NBD and have been thinking of trying some aggressive ones in an empty place just to satisfy my curiosity.

My handling feelings seem to be what folks say about their handling with aftermarket suspensions. Again, not talking about quality, just characteristics.

Do some test driving on the OR to see how it feels. I personally like the ride better in the OR as I drive alot of old rural roads, the sport was too harsh imho.

I completely agree. But, I blame the sway bar. I sometimes wonder what an OR SB would feel like, but then I am just to content as is.
