    Hey All,

Been lurking for a few months considering a new Tacoma.

2019 will already be the 4th year for the 3rd generation. Aside from the TRD Pro snorkel, do we expect a refresh of some type? We aren't quite midway in the 10 year cycle. But, perhaps some minor changes/improvements?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

alright, alright, alright. Not expecting anything miraculous, especially knowing Toyota. Mostly wondering if I should hold out until the 19's come out near year end.

I heard from my cousins friend's sister in law who works for Toyota that diesel is GUARANTEED to be 2019 and then 2020 they are going to ALL ELECTRIC powertrain.

2018 was already a minor refresh with updated grilles and all the safety features. We know that 2019 trucks won't be getting a facelift so I imagine we won't see any real updates. Toyota doesn't spend any engineering dollars on pickups unless an act of god demands it.

Yeah, I doubt there will be much new other than a new color. Probably won't even get the new entune.

Pretty sure I saw on here somewhere that the Entune units would be updated to include Apple CarPlay. Really hoping this is an update the rest of us get but not holding my breath

Dropped my truck off at the dealer this morning and they gave me a new camry to drive. It has the new Entune. I'm not a fan.

For real, didn't think they could make it any worse than what they put in the tacos.

My daughter has a 2018 Camry with the new Entune, she has the base HU I think.

Seems very bland (LCD looking) in comparison to the version in my Taco. I honestly have not played with it enough to say it is better or worse. She says it is just kind of "meh" and that mine sounds and looks better. Of course I have JBL with nav and she has the standard Entune, so it is expected the sound quality at least would be better.

Probably not much more than a different paint color.

I must be one of the few that do not "hate" the HU in my Taco. It does have a few shortcomings but for the most part I am not greatly disappointed for a stock system.

The things I would like to see in it:
Andriod Auto (Come on Toyota, just firewall the diag specs)
    Carplay (for the fruit fans)
Free map updates (of course AA would eliminate this need)
Ability to add/remove apps from my interface including XM
Add a big Connect button the to the phone app screen rather than having it buried in a menu
    Better antennae
Possibly add a few EQ presets

However even with that wish list it is a huge improvement over my prior Taco (04) stock and the stock system in other vehicles I have owned. I have owned more than one vehicle (Impala, GMC Truck, 5 or 6 bikes, etc) that did not have any built in entertainment system. My 1st 3 cars only had AM and FM. So yes, I am a bit aged. I do not expect to get the world delivered to my dash.

Will stock systems ever be better than aftermarket? Excluding a few high end and luxury vehicles, hell no.

Nor are they likely to fill everyone's wish list and expectations.

Welll see the fallacy here is that your old cars that had AM and FM didn't charge you an arm and a leg for that AM and FM. Toyota has the cost of this HU built into the price. You ever see how much it costs you to get an entune from a dealer if yours goes tits up? You'd think if they are baking in that price they could at least give us a decent system, otherwise I'd gladly save a bundle of money and get a hole in my dash so I could put an actually decent system in with my savings.

The earliest model year for a refresh will be 2020. Toyota already gave a glimpse of the 2019 Pro at the Chicago Auto Show and there were very few differences. The 2nd Gen trucks were refreshed after 4 years on market (2005-2009). You can expect Toyota to do the same with 3rd Gen trucks.

Actually those older cars DID add in cost and just like the Entune system if it took a crap it cost the same or more than an AF system. The big difference is that when AM/FM were "it" the costs were cheaper, tough likely note more than double once inflation is factored in. When 8-track, cassett, and CD became options they were comparatively expensive options.

With that said, if my HU dies outside of warranty, it will be replaced with an aftermarket system for less cash and more of my wants filled. My point was that Toyota, cost wise, is not doing anything that is outside MOST car manufacturers. Do many other companies offer more phone integration, sure. WE all know that Toyota is a slow and steady company, they RARELY offer cutting edge changes. They build on a reliable, tried, and tested platform in pretty much everything they do.

I doubt any of us here on TW would chose another truck over the Taco based only on the infotainment system.

I saw an article about a late ‘60’s or early ‘70’s Cadillac that showed option pricing in dollars when new, and inflation-adjusted. The AM/FM stereo cost something like $600 in 2018 dollars. Even the optional power windows were about $200. Our stuff really doesn’t cost that much, but most of the apps will be obsolete in a few years. At least the 50 year old Caddy radio still gets AM talk shows and FM classic rock radio.
