But I don’t care what they look like shirtless, in fact they should have shirts on for advertisers sake, and to not make me look so fat.

2020 schedule is different. Phoenix is last race, summer Daytona is now the regular season finale, double header at pocono, one on Saturday another on Sunday of the same weekend. That's just a few of the changes.

I just fear the Pocono double header will be a double ass beating from whoever has the best car

Hate they’re moving Daytona from the July 4th weekend. If they want to get back to the sport’s roots, moving a very historic race from the historic date is just... wrong. Glad they didn’t move the Southern 500 (again).

    Pocono double header is stupid.

The west coast swing immediately following speedweeks in Daytona is gonna be tough on the teams, especially the road crews.

When they moved the southern 500, they caught a bunch of shit for that move. I'm waiting to see what the backlash of Daytona getting moved will be. You just don't move a historic track and date like that. It's been the July 4th ish race for 60+ years.

I will be at the night race at Martinsville though, really looking forward to that.

Well it's been fun guys... but my decade long attempt to try to like Nascar just ended.

Like I mentioned in a previous post they are trying waaaaay to hard to attract a demographic that will never want their product while tossing aside their established base.

    I'm out... dueces.

The brickyard has been a dying race for some time... they probably have some boneheaded idea that moving it to 4th of July might bring some of the younger crowd and make it relevant again... but let's be honest... Indy just dont make for an exciting stock car race.

And the finale... let's have a short track race to crown the champion... what a great idea... but they are probably thinking maybe the short track will give them more street cred with the youth with short attention spans. Homestead was another open wheel track that didnt make for great stock car racing.

Then Daytona in September... have you been here that time of year...?! They think it's hot in July... ha. Digressing... I see that as another hairbrained attempt to lure party jockeys into caring about the upcoming chase.

And dont get me started on the double tap pocono weekend......

The Pocono doubleheader has me intrigued. What happens with a rain out? Monday & Tuesday? Will one team rule the weekend or will the track change drastically and someone out of nowhere gets a win?

Have you been to the July Daytona race? The heat and humidity are oppressive. The weather is a toss up, too. Every time I’ve gone it rained on race day.

No just a classic baby boomer if I may assume.

Races are more competitive than ever and the majority of fans only watch the big races anyways. I wouldn't mind if NASCAR emulated F1 and only ran an abbreviated schedule (20-25 races) to keep the audience intrigued.

    September is worse...

That's the way they were when I first started watching. I think the total was 28 around the time I picked up the sport.

I know I like to stir the shitpot a little bit but this time I'm being all seriousness. NASCAR is a far cry from what they were when I fell in love with them. The racing seems manufactured, they try to make the personalities out of drivers where the old school it came naturally, and now they're hacking up the schedule to try to do best with the ratings and the younger crowd.

They do this because some Marketing Group somewhere told them that they were losing fans in the early 2000s because they weren't marketing to the younger generation. No, what made them lose fans at first was their idea of jacking up prices.

I don't want to go into a long tirade here but I would like to give you the cliff notes version of why I became a fan. The first race I ever attended was the Talladega fall Race in 1993. If you remember, that was the first race there after Davey Allison was killed and my dad being a huge Bobby Allison fan wanted to go to see his son be honored. After the little small presentation Yates racing did for the fans my father and I were loitering around and was actually approached by Ernie irvan himself. He actually asked me who my favorite driver was and at the time I didn't have one and so he gave me his hat and said I'm hoping you will root for the 28 today. I kept that hat until a spiteful ex-girlfriend decided she wanted to throw it away. You don't see that anymore in the sport. The tickets are damn near impossible to afford and there's really no environment anymore. The drivers certainly don't talk to you and wouldn't dare give a little kid a hat.
Point is it was way more fan-friendly back in the day now they're trying to commercialize everything and it's lost its luster.

The schedule change is fine.... Have u been to georgia in February? And the short track finale is perfect, lets be real the pulse of stock car racing is short tracks so the grand finale should be a short track. Sure some of the bigger tracks dont produce great racing but they need a variety to showcase they are the "best drivers in the world" (debateable with the new crop of drivers) but at least they had brains to fix several issues. NASCAR will never be the crown of Indy, so mobing it to the 4th makes sense to keep that market as it needed help... And like @MadDaddy said moving daytona could help attendance as well. What's next you'll complain about them not stopping halfway to have an mma fight for the win?

Nailed it. They've tried to replicate the kid connection by handing checkered flags through the fence, but it's not organic like having a driver walk up into your business like when I was a kid. One of my favorite stories comes from the garage at AMS when I was a kid back in '97. I was talking to my uncle and I hear this familiar voice walk up saying "What are y'all talking about over here?" I look up and it was Darrel Waltrip. He just butted into our convo and joined right in. When I was 12 I wrote a letter to Bill Elliott. He didn't reply, but I did get a reply from Mis Evie, who worked the front desk at the Melling shop. She invited me to come visit and said she had something from Bill for me. I arrived in July, Miss Evie took me on a guided tour around Bill's Museum (now housed at GRHoF in Dawsonville), let me climb in one of his cars and took me back into the shop and gave me a used Goodyear Eagle off Bill's car.

I'm thankful they've made kid tickets free on Saturday and low priced on Sunday. When I divide what I spend on tickets by two, it's easier to swallow the price. INDYCAR is free kids at most tracks, save for Indianapolis, which is honestly the only thing keeping me from going to the 500.

The only good times for racing in Florida are February and November. Shoot, just start and finish at Daytona. I went to the Clash two years ago and our plastic plates melted while eating!

The schedule was just a fuse that popped the breaker in my dedication to the sport. They make all these changes without the right motivation in mind. They're trying so hard to go after the video game loving Millennial culture that they forget what the real culture of racing really was. The schedule change on the surface looks good but when you dig deep enough you can see their true motives and that's what really grinds my gears. They have made up their mind to leave the traditionalist behind saying they don't need them anymore. But what they don't realize is us traditionalists are having kids and would really love to take them to experience the same Joy I had as a kid going to Talladega and Daytona with my dad. But that culture is dead and gone and I have had to come to that painful realization.
