I keep saying "next year" about going to Bristol. I feel like the April date is a crapshoot with the weather. I don't want to make that financial and time commitment to drive 4 hours and sit in rain. The '17 Clash really did a number on me as far as rain delays. I went 26 years of attending races and never dealing with a rainout, then three of the races I attended that year were rainouts.

The old March date was a sweet spot. Thankfully, it looks like they're moving back near the original Spring race date with the '20 schedule. November was always too cold. Labor Day was HOT. Ga-Fl weekend was usually perfect in the daytime but pretty chilly at night. I spent lots of cold nights outside T4 at AMS over the years.

pretty sure the hotel prices were jacked up 10 years ago when they were selling out the race....

the problem is, nascar racing is just bland now. don't think i've watched more than 10 laps this season.

I live an hour away and considered it but there were better things to watch like my local dirt track with Lucas Oil series in town.
Nascar has too much competition for millennial attendance in my millennial opinion. I was always think of going to races but there is always something a little bit better that I end up going to

Plus most of us Millenials (at least in the NASCAR market) are levied with too much debt to passionately follow NASCAR like past generations. The dollar bill doesn't go as far these days. Add student loans, kids, bills, mortgage... I'm waiting for the Forbes article titled "MiLlEnIaLs ArE kIlLiNg NaScAr" so I can call BS on it.

Why are NASCAR fans more prone to debt than other people? I don't see your point

But yes, tix for $40+ and simply not worth it for me. Add in $25 gas, $30 beer, $20 food, and boom there's a $150 day at the racetrack
Not in the cards for me lol

I would really like to see more road course races like Road America or Road Atlanta maybe even the Circuit of the Americas

Ah I see. Then yes, I agree. But a mortgage and student debt are about the only non-preventable debt in my eyes. Us young people in general tend to make dumb decisions that put us in that situation like a car payment, kids, iPhone, etc

Not specifically NASCAR fans, that's not the point I'm trying to make, though it would be interesting to see the data on first-generation college grads from low, working class, and blue-collar family backgrounds (those most likely to need student loans to pursue 4-year college degrees). I'm talking about 25 to 35 year-olds with student loans that zap into monthly budgets and fun money.
For me a race is typically $70-$90 for an adult ticket plus $20-50 for a kid ticket, hotel ($130 x2), or camping ($40). Food for two for the weekend ($50), souvenirs ($10-30) (because kiddo has to have a race car or shirt), race program ($15), two tanks of gas (@ $45 ea.) and I'm at $600 real quick. That's my student loan payment or mortgage right there.

Yep. '81-'96 is the generally accepted range, but it's fluid.

Valid point. Those certainly add up. On an unrelated note; why do the phrases in your signature contradict?

I'm a lifelong 2A supporter. I come from a military and LE family. I do some work in the firearms industry but will not disclose who I work with. Without getting p*litical, I'm exposed to a lot of generalizations of how one side supports the 2A and the other side wants to do away with it at all costs.

Over the years, I did some digging on the history of gun legislation and what I found was A) there are more than two sides involved (easy observation), and B) Historically, gun control legislation has been set into place by the side that claims they are against gun control legislation.

I found these quotes from several well-known and polarizing people best highlight the more interesting truth behind the narrative typically paraded around in modern American (and British) media. A truth wholly opposite to what we're being told is the reality of the situation with gun control legislation.

Historically, the groups to my Left have vehemently fought against gun control legislation while those in the center and to my Right have been the ones to actually push for gun control legislation. I put these quotes in my signature not as a political declaration, but as a declaration of support for the 2A that I hope other 2A supporters are attuned to, because I often find that many "Hardcore 2A Guys" are often really only "2A for me and other people like me," which is entirely counter to the spirit of the 2A, and every other Amendment, for that matter.
