Agreed, if anything Dale Sr. was a real dick bag to the kid. I was a huge Dale Sr. fan. I cried the day he died but damn, the man was not the best father. Jr and I are only a little apart in age so I had already gravitated to being a full time #8 fan by the time Sr. died. After meeting Dale I just liked him. I remember asking if we could meet his dad at Rockingham and he said "No. hell, I don't even know if I can meet him". I felt bad for him after that. I did get close to Sr. once but he didn't sign my hat. He and Gordon walked up the track to the wall to check the track after it rained on a Friday. A buddy and I went up the grass on the outside of turn 4 and got to the other side of the fence. I folded my hat up and stuck it through the fence and asked Dale to sign it. Dale did not respond but Gordon said hi and offered to sign it. I declined the Gordon signature and Dale just walked away. I never held it against him as he was in work mode I guess but I think Dale Sr. was not a very good person overall. I think he was starting to come around when he died but by then it was just to late.

That about sums it up. I was never a huge Sr fan, probably because of his demeanor but he was also one of the last good ole boys in a way too. Just not a big people person, I never held it at him either.

I just read where CGR is shutting down their Xfinity team. They just gave Ross Chastain full time ride in that car. Sucks for him.

I believe he is still racing in cup for premium motorsports and he is still contract with CGR.

I guess this spells a bad end for DC Solar, too.

Hate I didn’t know there was a 2018 NASCAR thread. Least I found this before the season kicked off. Been a huge fan since I was old enough to remember watching races on TV. Grew up going to Bowman Gray in Winston-Salem and cup races at Charlotte when dad could afford to take me. Got some friends in the industry and am one of the biggest nerds about the sport.

I grew up a Dale Sr fan then naturally became a Jr fan when he passed. Knowing Jr was retiring I kinda figured I’d pull for Harvick since he was always my #2 driver, but I really came to like Blaney when he was with The Wood Brothers. He’s got a huge knowledge of and respect for the sport and even with a semi-famous dad still seems to be a “normal guy.”

H’s said before he doesn’t want to take a “handout” ride because he wanted to earn his way. Definitely respect him for that. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do finally getting in a quality ride. Maybe he’ll be the next Ryan Preace or Ross Chastain. If he can’t do it at JGR we’ll know didn’t get the Earnhardt talent.

Carlos Slim (richest man in Mexico and owner of Arris) is definitely throwing money at someone trying to get/keep a Mexican in NASCAR. FWIW I like Suarez and think his success would be good for the sport. (Lord knows it needs all the new fans it can get.) Just not sure he’s the next big thing.

I think that’s what gave Jr the “every man” vibe and helped people relate to him. He had a famous name/father, but still had to earn his way. Him and Kerry built their own cars and learned what it meant to take care of equipment cause it was their dollar.

I’m so upset for Ross. A buddy of mine used to work for JDM. Ross is a great guy. Was so excited for him finally getting his big break only to have someone else’s greed screw him. Just hate it’s so late in the off season. Not sure he’ll be able to land somewhere at this point. Carpoff (DC Solar) is a nice guy, but will screw someone in a heartbeat.

I loved that Hardee's car. It was a basic scheme that was underrated, IMO.

I think it is pretty messed up that DEI refused to let Jr buy it when he left for HMS even though he is the person that had a connection with the #. Now RCR ends up with the number. I think it's Richard Childress and Teresa Earnhardt giving Jr the finger to be honest.

I think RCR wanted JR when he left dei, he just didn't have the money Hendrick offered. So, yeah I believe they are giving him the finger.
