I’ve never made it to the top of eagle lakes because last time I went there was too many people and it took too long.

Thank you guys for picking up trash left by others, even picking up one thing is great. I've only been camping or backpacking once the last 6 weeks, so a little lame for me, a bugger getting old, may try some snow camping before the 1st. Getting so the short day light and cold nights discourage me more each year, still have only missed two months of not backpacking at least one night per month the last 6 or 7 years.
Thank you guys for sharing your trips.

    Those people are whack. :anonymous:

    :crapstorm:

Na. We just rolled to deep. It was a shitshow. We had to make a makeshift bridge at driveline hill. Managed to get a hummer through. I lost my breaks and almost ate mikes ass. Bent a rim so we had to change the tire in the snow. It was a fun day

Well was going to go out through the burn areas near here but had to swap kids yesterday. Maybe today in the rain might work.

Hunkered down up here, worked on shelving to work over my spare bedroom/gear room/man cave. Just raining a little, was partially snowing earlier.

Hello Everyone. I’m new to the Central Valley and finally just got another capable truck for offroad camping. I’m looking for recommendations for beginner trails with camping near Modesto (2’ish hours away).

I’m not concerned with rain, snow, cold, etc.. my extent of off-roading is dirt trails with no real rock climbing involved. I have a 2020 TRDOR with 1000 miles but ready to get out. I have tons and tons of backpacking and car camping gear so only limitation is my ability/skill (going by myself with my dogs).

    Thank you everyone in advance.

I’ve done a little satellite searching and I’m thinking I’ll head up 108 near long barn and possibly find a service road or such to turn off on a give a shot. I’m thinking I’m leaving early tomorrow morning if I don’t get better suggestions

You going solo? What sort of recovery gear are you taking?

I'm not very familiar with the 108 corridor, but from what I understand I'd expect there to be quite a bit of snow up there already. The pass has been closed just east of Strawberry for about a month, and there have been storms since. If you're going up alone, watch your ass.

If you get up there once everything reopens though, or if the snow isn't as bad as I expect it is, you might check out Dodge Ridge. I haven't done the trail myself, but (at least in dry weather) it looks scenic and not too difficult.

Yeah you’re right. Lots of snow.

Also the FS closes a lot of the forest in the winter.
