Last year there was a group of Jeeps winching themselves across the huge mud hole. We just sat back and watched.

This year we went up Memorial Day weekend but we only made it a little past where there is that huge rock in the middle of the trail.

I know we have alot of shooters here in the NorCal BS Thread so here's a little info from Sportsmans Wearhouse:

If you’re a California customer, you may have heard that there will be changes to ammunition purchases as of July 1st, 2019. We’ve put this together to answer some of the most frequently asked questions that customers have, and hopefully clear up a few rumors that are going around.*
    • What’s happening on July 1st, 2019?
      • Beginning on July 1st, 2019, all ammunition purchases in California will require a background check.
      • Prior to July 1st, 2019, California consumers can purchase ammunition without completing a background check.
    • What about online ammunition purchases?
      • Just like today, all California ammunition transfers must be completed in stores. You can still order online from Sportsmans.com and have it shipped to one of our California locations before or after July 1st, 2019. The only difference is that once the new law goes into effect, you’ll need to have the in-store background check before the ammunition can be transferred to you.
    • Will there be limits to the caliber or amount of ammunition that I can purchase?
      • No, this is a rumor.
      • There will be no limit to the amount of ammunition that you can buy in a single purchase. There will be no limit to the number of purchases you can make in any given time period or the number of locations you can purchase from, either.
      • There will be no restriction to the caliber(s) of ammunition you can purchase. You will not be limited to purchasing only ammunition for your registered firearms.
    • What is the background check going to cost and how long will it take?
      • That depends on a few factors, outlined below. Basically, based on your qualifying information at the time of purchase, you’ll either have a $1.00 background check that will take a matter of minutes, or a $19.00 background check that may take 3 to 10 days. This will be per transaction, not per box of ammunition or per day.
    • What do I need to know for this new background check before I buy ammo?
      • You will need to bring your valid California driver’s license (or other qualifying, valid CA state-issued identification) for your background check.
      • For most California consumers that have previously registered a firearm with the State of California (California refers to this registration as creating an Automated Firearm System or “AFS” record), the eligibility check will cost $1.00 and can be completed in a matter of minutes. You may purchase an unlimited amount of ammunition under one eligibility check and that ammunition does not have to be for use in a firearm you have registered under your name.
      • Purchasing a firearm from Sportsman's Warehouse will create a qualifying AFS record. An unlimited amount of ammunition can be added to the firearm Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) at time of firearm delivery for no additional background check fee. The ammunition does not have to be purchased for use in the firearm listed on the DROS. The new DROS will create an updated AFS record, entitling you to complete the "Standard" $1.00 eligibility checks in the future.
      • For California customers that have previously created an Automated Firearm System (AFS) record for a firearm, but have changed their name or address since that transaction, the AFS record must be updated using the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) found at . This process may require several days to complete and will require you to create a CFARS account and submit supporting documentation.
      • California residents that do not have an AFS record or are unwilling or unable to update an existing record may complete what is known as a "Basic" eligibility check. This check is good for one ammunition purchase, will cost $19.00 and may take 3 to 10 days prior to approval. There is no limit on the amount of ammunition purchased on one transaction. Unfortunately, this "Basic" eligibility check will not create an AFS record and any subsequent ammunition purchases would require an additional $19.00 fee, background check, and waiting period.

Additionally, all you California drivers, stand by for the 5 and a half cent rise in the gas tax starting July 1. As if gas wasn't already through the roof in cost. Ah, the good ol Communist Republic of California.

    Yay for change!

I changed up my dirt day destination and it ended up worthwhile. Glad I was open to trying something new...

Heya, sidenote. I picked up about 3lbs of brass at some a holes target practice/campsite off of Signal Peak trail. Why can’t people just pick up after themselves?

Sounds about right. Picked up some near Faucherie this past weekend. They're too lazy and/or they assume others will be by to pick it up.

I agree. It's bullshit. I pick up my brass. Two reasons. It's the right thing to do, and, I reload. Shits expensive.

I consider myself to be a good steward of my environment. As a former backpacker (in my younger days) I always packed it out. Leave it better than I found it. Going anywhere and finding garbage pisses me off. Even in my own damn neighborhood. People roll in late and night and offload sofas, appliances, hazmat, right on the damn side of the road. Very little pisses me off more than that.

We feel the same way. I actually ended up with almost a full 30gal trash bag yesterday. It’s very frustrating. Our house is on a corner and we get the swirl of trash from the lazy folks that don’t pick up after their trash cans have been emptied and the detritus just floats around. And it always floats onto my side yard.

I usually take a big canvas target out when I go so it collects while I pew pew, and then of course I pick up everyone else's as well. Brass and Target trash really makes shooters look bad. I take my Dodge up shooting in the Sly Park area and bring home half a load of garbage every time or hook up with some local shooting clubs to do clean up's up there as well. Might not be a bad idea for a TW trip...

We were up there on Sunday shooting, and some of the spots were filled with all kinds of random hazards and junk. People from all over go up there, so some of them probably think; “well this isn’t my place... I don’t live here” and leave shit all over. Super frustrating. Definitely agree that it gives shooters and other outdoor enthusiasts a bad name.

I belong to a Fly Fishing Group that annually organizes a clean up day on a particular section of a river. Everyone tries to do their part every day on the river, but this one day is dedicated to serious trash hauling. I think it would be a great thing for us to do a TW clean up of a favorite spot.

I'd be down for a clean up day kind of thing. I try to pick up whatever I can when I'm out. Just sucks we even have to do that for others.

Right. So we just need to identify a particular spot that we know is jacked up on a regular basis. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I’d appreciate it if we can go back to wheeling and camping and shenanigans please. Too easy to fall into the political aspects and I don’t want this thread to get reported.

And if anyone wants to ship to my house in Nevada, I’ll happily help with TW express.

Thank you for cleaning up. I police my campsite whether I'm backpacking or "car" camping. Hate seeing fire pits trashed with foil, plastic, aluminum cans, tin cans. Pack it in, pack it out.

I did summiting last year, 4th of July, it was awesome. I was camping in RTT on east side trailhead and small bear was walking around. Also camped on base camp near forest edge before actual summit. For this year I'm planning popular south side, which I tried two years ago and failed. It was one day summiting from zero to 14,179 feet and it's sucks. Need to camp along the trail for better acclimatization.
