i Amin the process of trading in my 2008 Off Road for a new 2019 Off Road. My 2008 has just over 200,000miles on it, I had it for 10 years. I figured it was time to treat my self, even though it means a car payment every month. I am going New since the price I am paying is close to a good used truck.
Any bad things or good things about the new 2019s??
I hate getting rid of my 2008, it has been such a great truck, hopefully the 2019 are the same.
    Thanks
    Barry

The engine and transmission combo is “different” to put it nicely. You getting an auto or manual?

Just depends I guess if OP wants to get a deal on an "older" model or pay more for a few extra things he may or may never use.

I'd wait due to the new headlights and seat options. Who knows what else they will update.

No since I have a 2008, no reason to hang in the third gen section.
It is a automatic. I would image I wouldn’t be able to touch a 2020 for less than $40,000

test driving is the best you can do for yourself. everyone's opinion is just that, an opinion. yours is the most important.

Note that early Gen3s had transmission issues that a lot complained about... Pay attention to how the truck shifts and see if it's ok.

I don't buy the "wait till next year" argument, unless it's confirmed for a new model (i.e. Gen4). Every year Toyota makes incremental changes... you will wait yourself till death if you kept waiting for next years model. The lone exception is if you are aware that Toyota has a new feature that you must have, then of course, wait as you want.

    good luck.

Why does it drive That Bad?
I just read the Motor Trend and the Car & Driver articles on the 2020 Tacoma upgrades.
Ehhh, don’t have a need for a camera under my truck, unless I drive over somebody. The headlights look cooler, but can’t see them from the drivers seat. Led lighting for bed is nice, but can add those anytime. The taillight change, I don’t really like.
So unless The 2019 rides like a bull, I should be all set, but let me know if there is anything else you don’t like about the 2019...I kind of like the $32,000 I am paying for the OFF RD, not including my trade in

You really need to test drive as the 4.0 and 3.5 are quite different, the 4.0 makes power down low whereas you have to rev the 3.5.

They are the same, but different. Only way to notice is spend time in that 3rd gen until you notice and then decide if you can live with it or not.
Do everything you would do on a daily drive and then do it 2 more times at least. See how the truck feels and reacts.

I went from a 2015 Chevy DCSB Z71 to a 2018 DCSB TRD OR. Yes, the Tacoma is less powerful, but you get used to it. Room shouldn't be an issue for you since your coming from similar. I was apprehensive at first, but test drove as other members have suggested. I didn't hate the power and was excited about the mod possibilities. Kinda like the Glock of trucks. At the end of the day, high resale and cult like following pretty much ensure you can't lose. Unless you mod, and you will,......wife complains daily. Good luck.

The 2019's are a lot better shifting than the older 3.5L models even with TBS. I've no issues with 2019 in that regard. That said, the 3.5L engine is a bit wimpy. However, I also thought the 4.0L in my 2012 was under powered and it guzzled a lot more gas although it had better low end torque without high RPM. Even if I drove like grandma going to church, about 16-17 mpg was the very best I could nurse out of that one and it was 2wd. 18-19-20 mpg average is easily doable in the 2019... better if you do much highway driving and keep under 70.

As a lot have suggested, give it a good test drive but be aware the ECU does "learn" and the shift pattern will gradually change as you put miles on it. Theoretically it should get better as it matches your driving habits, but some have reported otherwise.

A couple of (little) things that bugs me about the 2019 is they discontinued the driver's side cubby in the bed. I found that quite useful in the older models I've owned. Also they discontinued the GoPro mount. This make little difference to most people, but I used mine as a mount for my dashcam and had to reconfigure that.

The cubby can be added to it now. The bed is still the same and there is space to put one in.

Not so sure about that. I’ve had my 19 OR about a month and I’m averaging 16-17 mpg if I drive like an old lady. Bone stock too.
