It appears it will get a 2.5L and 8 speed gearbox.

I’ve bolded some interesting aspects of it. Now, not only do the 4Runner guys gotta trade barbs with the Tacoma guys but now we will have to trade plbarbs with the RAV4 crowd now!

It does look like Toyota is pushing back on Subaru.

Hit a little close to home with my comment? Sorry that the 3rd gen got the cool gizmos the 4Runner got...6 years later, and, still doesn’t offer a manual transfer case.

I just hope the rear hatch isn’t integrated with the keyless entry, and needs to be locked and unlocked with a separate key. Make them feel the pain.

Toyota does own 16% of Fuji Heavy Industries which manufactures Subaru.

Look at the BRZ and Scion FRS/Toyota 86. It’s running the FA20 flat 4 non turbo Subie engine.

You still don't want to (or can't) throw the shit in the back of your Runner that I haul in my truck. When I move into the assisted living here in a few years and no longer need a truck, I'll consider the 4R. OK, not really.

If it’s like the 4R...sorry, it’s integrated with the keyless entry. I can also use the key to roll down the rear glass or roll it up and automatically lock the 4R

Considering I have no idea what you haul, probably a good assumption. However, that’s what trailers are for! Given how infrequently I throw anything I’d need a bed for in the back of the 4R. I’ll probably get a used Tundra for that when the time comes.

I will say though, having the already enclosed space and ability to pull over in a rear area, lay out a sleeping pad and bag and catch a good night sleep in a completely sealed area is a win in my book.

Lol. I guess I shouldn't say anything about my Tundra having power seats, 125 more hp, and endless head room along with adequate towing. Oh, it shifts perfectly too. Aaaannnnddd, whole back glass rolls down.

I was hasty and got the 16 Tacoma, where this wasn’t even an option. But hey, at least installing one from a Tundra was a fun project.

Yeah, but is the interior as cramped as a Tacoma? See, got you on that one! I love discomfort.

When I get up to cruising speed, I allow the passengers in the back to unbuckle and are free to get up and walk around the cabin...

Dude, It’s crazy how much room is back there. If I had one, I’d never sleep in a tent while camping again.
