a lot of people order complete differentials with lockers and install them. Pretty straight forward.

Basically just disassemble the rear axle and pull the 3rd out and install the new one and put it all back together.

The sky is the limit when it comes to upgrading these trucks. There are lots of options just in the Tacoma parts bins. For GPS I would recommend an aftermarket unit. It won't interact with your dash cluster but if you get the right unit, the map updates are free for life. The factory head unit is not.

A rear locker will depend on how much you want to spend. There are options but it will depend on whether you have an auto truck or manual truck. If it's auto then diff locker options are cheap ( lunchbox locker ) to expensive ( air or elocker ) if you are manual then there are only 2 options, air or elocker.

All other options are yours to do and imagine. Pro grille, power seats, LED headlamps. Anything else you desire, just requires some electrical mod or mechanical mod and away you go.

Thanks! These little tidbits are exactly what I'm looking for. I really like the truck but I also want to be practical for my needs. I don't want to purchase something I'm not sure if I would ever really use.

I think my first modification will be a bed cover followed by a headlight upgrade.

    Really appreciate all your advice!

I was told by a Toyota tech that I can't add factory entune nav to my SR5, and that neither of the phone apps can connect. He suggested Scout, which I loaded and played with a little then deleted. I just use iphone Waze on a cupholder phone stalk and run Pandora through bluetooth to the head unit.

You bought a great truck, be happy with what you've purchased. Start with some things to make yours different from the rest. Tint, decals, AVS window visors, tires, lighting etc. What ever you like.

You live in Florida and may get by without a rear locker especially if you ride with a group/ make some off-roading friends, join a club, Facebook group.

    Get some recovery gear
    Air down tires
    Tow strap
Traction mats (xbull on ebay $61 or so)
Shovel, long handled for when you're stuck deep
piece of plywood to put under your OEM bottle jack for sandy/offroad recovery

The list does go on, but this is a good start. Happy Tacoming

Not surprising, but the tech is an idiot. I have an sr5 I installed the premium entune radio in. Works great.

Extang tonneau cover, variable speed wiper stalk, hood struts, ScangaugeII.
I still cannot believe that Toyota cheeped out by installing a fixed speed windshield wiper stalk in their base Tacoma Trucks. The first simple mod that I would make is to install the variable speed windshield wiper stalk.

I'm honestly asking, what do you need a locker in a 2wd for? I'm sure there's some situations where it may make the truck slightly more capable but ultimately I can't fathom those scenarios being worth the cost to upgrade.

Save your money for a supercharger.

If you don’t have 4x4 why get a locker.
Get the @OVTune twin turbo set up. Gonna be around 4K for the small turbos.

as stated the sky is the limit, anything can be done with enough money, time and capability...even capability is optional if you got the money to pay someone else to do it. One of the best suggestions I have been told is to drive the truck for a good amount of time and figure out what you really wish was there, then figure out how to add that.

sr5 … light off roading dirt trail nothing crazy . u basically got a street truck .As far as options I would just make it look good for the street .Upgrading it to make it off road cable would be way to expensive . Best option would be to trade it on a trd Or version u get more bang for your dollar .

Get a new head unit with Apple Car Play/Android Auto. Pioneer makes nice units. Being able to use Google Maps, Waze, Gaia, Pandora, Google Play etc. plus hands free for the phone is a game changer for the $.

I hardly ever use entune nav. I always find myself using the phone nav.
