Get them from a reputable source and you’ll be fine. Stay 35w which actually operate cooler than halogen bulbs and a good bulb like say the Xenon Depot setup with the optional Phillips upgraded bulbs. The Phillips bulbs are made of a quality UV blocking quartz which will avoid UV degrading headlight parts. Not saying others aren’t but you’ll know what you are getting.

I’m running that same kit and the output is nuts. Re-aim so you have no issues blinding people and they will put out way more than you’ll ever need.

I’ve been running Morimotos 50W for thousands of miles with no issues.

LED’s just don’t have the output as an HID quit despite super high lumen claims

so what brands do you recommend as quality 35 watt bulbs and ballasts.... and does anyone make one with a very small ballast?

Stick with Xenon Depot or Morimoto, both have been doing this for a while and have quality components. Like I said, I have the 35w Xenon Depot setup with the philips bulbs, no issues. The ballasts and igniter/capacitors are separate on those so you've got some mounting flexibility.
