    Ok.

But what will you be doing? IE why do you even need a truck?

Will you road trip in it? Tow? Just haul mulch from HD 2x a year?

It only matters if you want to buy to match your needs. But we don't know what those are.

For example, I haul kayaks, occasional large objects, bicycles and that's about it. It also serves as a second piece of transportation. It gets under 5k per year usage. So I don't need trinkets to amuse or comfort me on the road, I just want reliability and simplicity. Which often go hand in hand.

Keep in mind, nothing is ever 'thrown in'.

The stuff is on the truck to give them 100% profit on each tidbit, physically attract shoppers perusing the lot and give said shopper the chance to finance their initial 'mods'. None of which is in the shoppers favor..........

Pick the truck that is right for you, but don't be afraid to walk out the door if the price isn't right.

These threads make me glad I already made my purchase. No more stressing over this vs that and pissing the wife off with my constant window-shopping.

OP - trust your gut. Go with what makes you happy because you are the one who has to live with it.

Exactly, you are the customer and you don't need the truck, but they need the sale.
It took me 3 years and walking away many times to get what I wanted at the price I wanted.

    33k for a 2wd SR5 sounds high doesn’t it?

I had to laugh at all the talk about the hood scoop. No offense to anyone. Here's why I laughed---

My neighbor bought a Tacoma with the hood scoop. His wife, who's 75 yrs old and will NEVER drive the truck, because a truck is sooo beneath her, (she drives a Volvo) She made him bring it back to the dealer and get another truck without the hood scoop because it was too distracting to her while she rode as a passenger! A whole 'other truck, not just swap hoods. Now THAT'S a pussy-whipped husband, no?

Probably just whipped, because at this point he most likely isn't getting, well you know.

Does it seem high? That has tax, title and fees included as well.

I think the SR5 is a good choice for you. Your only negative point about not going TRD was push to start and I actually don’t think that’s a loss. I have an OR and I think the push to start is pointless. I still have to have the same large key fob in my pocket and I have to remove the mini key from the fob to open the tailgate. In my opinion it might as well just be key start.

The smart door unlock is not fully functional either. Only works with the driver’s door and half the time I approach my truck from the passenger side to put things in first. It also does not work for the tailgate. If I have to have the keys out anyway then, again, might as well have the key.

All of the tech in my truck except the BSM and front crash monitoring is turned off. I am sure I will be wishing I didn’t have those either as soon as I have to replace the sensors/hardware for those too.

I wish Toyota would have just kept it simple, but the market demands more. The only thing I would like to have is auto on/off headlights, but a TRD OR won’t get you that either.

Don’t let them talk you in to anything, you can get TRD OR rims on here for $400-$500 and any grill you like for a good price too.

    Good luck and enjoy!

I read your want list and if I was in your shoes, I would get a 2wd TRD Sport and find someone to swap hoods with (this is NOT difficult to do, there are tons of "I want a scoop" Off Road and SR5 owners out there.)

Get the trim level that will be based around your needs. I got a SR5 2WD because I don't off-road, it's my daily driver, and I live in central Texas where it is pretty much warm all year round with some rain storms here and there. Also, don't pay more than $28k for an SR5 2WD. I got mine for just under, and paid $30K flat OTD (including TTL -- pretty good deal IMO). Keep looking around, there should be some good deals around this time of year.

My two cents. Get the off road. The black plastic cladding gives it a more rugged look.

Is that specific to the OR? My Sport has auto lights, unless I misunderstood...

    Welcome to TW!

I just recently purchased a 2019 Tacoma TRD sport 2WD and it’s the first taco I’ve ever owned. And all I can say is I should have gotten one sooner. Yes the hoodscoop takes a little to get use to but overall it’s a great truck and I recommend getting that trim package if it’s one you have in mind

I’m not sure what the other models have to be honest. I figured it was a given, but that’s not so. My OR headlights will turn off on their own, but that’s only because they are timed off and will not turn on automatically when it gets dark. I can leave them on all of the time, but that means the interior lights (radio, cluster) are always on/dimmed as if it is night and it makes it difficult to see the radio during the day.

Yea we are on the same page. My ‘16 sport has it, but I’m thinking it’s part of the tech package if you don’t have that?

I have the tech package. I don’t have dual climate control either though, which I think the sport has right?
