I agree except about the Ranger. Your comment is exactly what they were saying about the GM twins a few years ago, with respect to cutting in to Tacoma sales. They didn't. If anything, Tacoma sales are even higher with the additional competition. The GM twins did cut into full size sales a bit though.
I hope the Ranger is a whiz bang hit because competition is always good for the consumer. We will see.

I'm still mind boggled that folks believe Toyota would put a non-reliable engine in there historically bulletproof Tacoma for 3 years running. If it sucked, they would pull it (update) pretty darn quick.

Well, the OP said it did...
Almost everyone who has a complaint anymore feels the need to post about it on the internet. When it comes to Tacomas, they come here to post. This forum is littered by single digit posters who came here, said their piece and moved on. Truthfully, how many engine problem threads are there? One? Two? Out of 20K+?

    Drums rule. Disc drool.

I bought this truck because of all the old technology, as did many others. Please Toyota... just keep making simple tough trucks and don’t cater to the losers who want a Prius with a bed.

Yes, but look at the sales numbers of the Ranger before they discontinued it (in NA). Much bigger market share than the GM twins and others combined. Ford has a loyal following. Apparently much more brand loyalty there than other big 3. I really think this has Toyota worried. They should be expecting to take a hit.

Meh, Ford really doesn't seem to be putting a ton of effort into this truck. No cosmetic changes from the existing global ranger, no options as far as cab/bed combos and one single powertrain option.

Maybe they will expand upon it later on, but it really seems like they are just throwing an existing model into the American market just to say they offer a midsize. They don't want to steer anybody away from their true Cash cow, the f150, and midsizes tend to do just that.

That is the whole point of a global platform. It’s the main reason why I am looking forward to it. I’d be just as intrigued if they offered Toyota’s global midsize truck, Hilux, in the US.

I've said from the beginning that Ford will not do anything to risk f150 sales.

And if they ever offer a ranger raptor, it probably will cost more than a base raptor.

Antiquated braking technology? My Tacoma uses sensors to warn me in case of an acccident and assist with braking...or I can drive in stop and go traffic without touching the accelerator or brake. Hmmm that seems like state of the art braking technology to me. :boink: But if the OP wants to save time changing his rear brakes he may want to try another brand truck :ballchain:

Also the features on the 2019 Tacoma have all been decided and forecasted with suppliers for manufacturing so do not think a few emails will sway a decision that has already been made at Toyota.

How is the reliability of the 3.5 nowhere near the 4.0 ?
Spec wise the 3.5 is just as fast 0-60 , quicker in passing, and tows faster.
Lol. Once it hits the higher rpms it's bye bye.
Last time I checked stopping distances were quite the same also.

Um what? I get great mpg as advertised and better than the 4.0. The 3.5 has been around a lot longer than the Tacoma and is reliable.
Side note. Toyota does not give a shit about you or your opinion on their vehicles.

And how many people consider a leaky radiator or bad fuel pump an engine problem. Hell even the CPS issue wasn't a 3.5 motor problem.

If you are a loyal Ford brand buyer you already own a F150 not a Tacoma. When the Ranger comes out you sell the F150 to buy the Ranger because you want a midsized truck. If you currently own a Tacoma you are not a loyal Ford brand buyer by definition.

Welcome to the forum, that’s quite a rant for a first post. I will say that when you piss in the wind, remember not to face it! Toyota may read your letter but they have a long history of moving slowly when it comes to making changes. The Gen 3 is only three years old and generations usually run about a decade with minor refreshes along the way so don’t expect much for awhile. I suggest test driving a Chevy, Nissan, Honda and then decide if Toyota is still right for you. Good luck.

I started looking at trucks because of a Colorado commercial. After doing my research, I landed on the Tacoma.

You’re mistaken, the 4runner and Tacoma do not share the same chassis. The structure of the runner is closer to the land cruiser, and is a fully boxed frame. The Tacoma has a different structure and has boxed front frame with open c channel in the back, giving more flex. Years past, the runner and pickup did share the same structure, things changed when the Tacoma came about; the Tacoma is designed and built in North America, 4runner and land cruiser are designed and built in Japan on the same assembly lines.

Or you still have your old 2011 Ranger. Or, you are a 1st or 2nd (or even 3rd) Gen owner and don't like what Toyota is producing.

Here's the way I see it. The Ranger was king with the majority of the midsize market share, all the way up until 2005. That's when the 2nd gen happened. It was bigger, more powerful than the Ranger. This is when Tacoma sales surged over Rangers. But even still, even up until the last year of production, the Ranger still had 30% of market. Tacoma was at the top with 47%. And for information purposes, GM twins were 17% and Dakota was 5%. Remaining went to Mazda and other insignificant leftovers.

Now look what we've got. 2018--A blazing hot truck market. Tacoma is doing very well. I am completely satisfied with my truck. But I will admit, there are a few things that left me scratching my head. Rear drums was one. Yes, they work just fine. But the BS answer Toyota gave on why they kept it, and why it's superior, just didn't sit well with me. Obvious mis-measurement of rear seat room. 4Runner and Tacoma DC's have the exact same rear leg room. If you look at the specs. But go sit in them. Not even close. And other minor annoyances.
Minor complaints like these were exactly what Ranger owners were voicing at the time of the 2nd Gen debut. And I noted what happened there. So when the new Ranger comes out, with its 4 wheel discs, bigger rear seats, stand alone options, better MPG, more power, etc., it will leave Toyota bruised and limping.

For the record, I am not trading or selling my truck. Just giving my 2 cents on its effects in the general marketplace.

The Ranger might be awesome and kick ass and take over the sales lead in the market segment. There will be unsatisfied Tacoma owners that sell their trucks and buy a Ranger. I don't personally care. My point was only that loyal Ford buyers are already driving Fords.
