Hey there - I'm a newbie to the forum.

we recently purchased a 2019 Tacoma TRD/Sport and have tried to get a brake controller fitted. The first one (installed by a local"reputable" dealer) blew the brake light fuse and the vehicle refused to start We went to a second "reputable" dealer and told them our issue - they installed a different controller. When I plugged in our trailer, the TRUCK brakes locked up completely - I unplugged the controller and the brakes released. The controller was removed and THEN we took the truck into the dealership we bought it from. They verified that the truck harness was correct to spec. BUT they found that the pigtail we retained from the second controller installation needed to have two wires reversed (black and blue) - we took the truck back to the second installer who said as soon as they plugged in the controller the truck fed 12v directly to the controller nearly causing a fire!
DOES ANYBODY know what make of controller works with 2019 Tacoma's???

What controllers are you having installed? The Tekonshas sell harnesses that are plug and play - no professional install or special wiring required.

    Hey Rock Lobster,
I can't remember the name of the first one - the second one was a Draw-tite controller - I did have a tekonsha fitted to my 2018 Four Runner. Thanks for the idea. I'll do some more digging.

my tekonsha p3 works great with my 2016 TRD OR, took like 15 minute to install. Does the sport already have the wiring in place under the kick panel on the driver's side? If so it should be super easy to set up

Yep - it does have the pre-wired plug-in and it was used to install both the controllers I tried. I'll look more closely at the tekonsha harness to see if the wire colours/wiring diagram line up - the previous wiring harness apparently did not line up (hence the technician re-wiring it).

    Thanks for the input
