Hello all. I'm new to this forum, sorry if someone already asked this question but I didn't see an answer when I did a search. I have a 2019 Tacoma with only 24k and I'm getting a chirping noise coming from he engine, it sounds like a bad or loose belt but I find that hard to believe with only 24k miles. Anybody else experience this?

    Thanks.

Most likely a belt or a pulley bearing making the noise.

Welcome to the forum. Need more information, can you take a video of the engine when it’s making the sound? Might be the serpentine belt or a pulley.

Welcome to TW! A chirping noise in the engine bay can be a real tough thing to isolate down to the source! Could be your main drive belt, and it could be a pulley bearing. Heck, lots of moving parts in there so it could be a lot of stuff ! A shot of belt dressing on the drive belt should make it quit down if it is a squeaky belt causing the chirping. That stuff is a temp fix but it might help you determine if it's a belt making the noise.

If the belt turns out to not be the source, you might suspect a pulley at this point. You can do a light squirt of WD-40 or similar on the bearing for each pulley. If the sound goes away, it is the bearing for that pully doing the squeaking. Again, this is most likely just a temp fix but at least you know what pulley is doing all the talking.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was reading some older threads and apparently in 2016 on there seems to have been an issue with the high pressure fuel pump making the chirping noise. Anybody have an issue with their fuel pump making this noise?

In my years at Toyota, I haven't heard a high pressure fuel pump make a chirp on the Tacoma. Not to say that couldn't be the source. The vacuum pump will clatter. Usual suspect is the belt or a pulley bearing. Do what @Buck Henry suggested. You can also squirt soapy water on the belt. If it stops, belt.

I had the same issue. Took it in to my dealership and the belt was replaced under warranty, there is a TSB out for it.

Thanks for all the tips. I think you may be right, i notice the chirp when RPMs are at 1000+ when in idle i can't hear the chirp. I'll try the soapy water test.

Recall issued for 2017-2018 Tacoma high pressure fuel pump chirping issue. LP fuel pump is in tank. HP fuel pump is mechanically driven off engine.

The low pressure fuel pump is in the gas tank. It doesn't chirp. High pressure fuel pump is in engine bay. Been known to chirp.

Most likely the high pressure fuel pump... Mine started chirping on my previous 3rd gen so I had it replaced under warranty by the dealer which fixed the problem.

Thank for all the tips. I just tried the soapy water test and the chirping went away. So I guess I'll be replacing the belt.

    Lots baby!
Do you have a manual transmission?

    Throw out bearings commonly chirp.

Never mind. If you did a water test, you probably have it isolated.

No, automatic. Just received a TSB for the belt, apparently Toyota is aware of the belt issue and is covered under warranty.

Is it T-SB-0098-20, applies to some trucks made at the Mexico plant?

That is mainly a 2nd Gen and FJ issue, thankfully not the 3rd Gens.
