Hey guys first ever post, was looking for opinions about delimma I'm having lol. So I have a 2019 Tacoma Magnetic Grey Metallic where I over polished some of the clear coat exposing base paint under the side mirror. About the size of a nickel. Body shop says they will have to repaint, clearcoat the door. Any other quick fix or ideas for a blemish this small? Body shop is correct if you want it done the right way. If the blemish is small enough and not a big concern to you, clean it with wax and grease remover and brush touch it with clear.

Thanks for the reply Mike, only had the truck for about a month and love it so far. So I was kinda upset about it, didn't think I could burn the clearcoat like that by hand with compound and a microfiber towel but live and learn I guess. Do you think brushing clear over it will help the lighter mark blend in with the darker paint surrounding it? I think I would be okay with a fix like that for now.

It will not likely blend in better, but it will protect the exposed basecoat and will also cover up the edges of the burned clearcoat. Only you can decide if it bothers you enough to spend the $ to have the body shop repaint it.

Yes, I'm gonna have to think on it a bit. I just wish bodywork and paint were cheaper you know? It's quite an expensive little mistake I made. Lol

Use some brush clear, go at least 1/4” more than the burn thru. Sand with 1000 a little bigger than what you put on, then repeat with 2000, then repeat with 3000, then polish.

I don't have any detailing experience besides washing and waxing really. Lol. But maybe I can practice with the sandpaper and stuff on my older Tacoma first.

Tape off, thin the clearcoat some, [automotive touch up sells it] degrease, and using a fine brush, carefully apply several thin coats overlapping the good clear. Let dry but don't wait more then a day or two, cut the area with fine rubbing compound CAREFULLY and with a wet sponge and feather the edges in, once cut in decently work out a bit lightly to blend as well as possible. Wait a few weeks and wax/ceramic coat.
