Or you can order the stock part for a 18 or below and just cut the hole.... you are going to cut a hole for that security box. So either or.

That box rusts out in a year, there’s a few that have installed it.

It wasn’t necessarily what i was gonna do. More of a reference of the type options. Why did they ditch the oem in the new tacoma anyway?

With the tss now installed, they probably lost 4 dollars per truck on the 18's. Cost savings of course.

Are the 18’s just cut out of the bed or different in some other way?

It’s just deleted in the 19. You can get one from a 16-18 and just install yourself.

It’s the same cubby from 2005-2015 too
eBay may have used for less.

something to keep in mind, the trucks that have the power plug in the bed, the compartment is smaller on that side than the trucks without.

They only deleted the left cubby. But it’s possible the right disappears in 2020, unless you have a TRD (the outlet).

I bought 2 Tuffy boxers and sold my OEM plastic ones, the Tuffy boxes do rust depending on where you live with road salt but I had to pull mine out and repaint with multiple coats of Rustoleum because of the surface rust. one thing I have noticed with my 2nd gen truck is that every god dang thing on it rusts

It is useless. I never use them on my trucks.

They’re a convenient way to stash the tie down straps, cargo net and chains I like to have handy... maybe not needed for you but I’d miss the box in my case.

200,000 units sold each year x $10 saved per box = $2 million saved. Over 10 years $20 million.

With the new optional TRD PRO box probably coming out to replace it that sells for $300, possibly 1.2 billion just made in 10 years if everyone buys.

You can also pick up the smaller over-the-wheel cubbies on ebay as well. Yes they're all a bit gimmicky but there's a ton of wasted, inaccessible space in the bedsides that both sizes invite use and this forum is loaded with ideas for them.
