I just bought a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport a week ago and the PCS system is not working. I know it is not working as my wife drives a 2016 Rav4 and it has this same system. I took it to the dealer and they said since there are no codes being thrown and they can't replicate it then there is nothing they can do. I know it is not working due to driving my wife's car. I appealed to the service manager and he said he would look into it and call me in a couple of days. I wondered if anyone else has had this concern on their 2019 Tacoma?

    Thanks much.

My PCS threw an inactive light once and then the Brake and warning tone activated another time. I brought it in for the recall and they told me there is nothing they can due as there are no stored codes. After the recall, I can't get the system to activate. Waiting for some time to bring it back to the dealer.

This is what i am trying to figure out: What would be the procedure to follow to test if the system is working?

The way it is supposed to work is if the front of your truck gets too close to another vehicle is you will hear beeping to warn you that you are getting close. As you get closer the beeping will increase and if necessary the truck will start braking for you. Also, say if you pull into your garage and you get too close to the wall it will start beeping to warn you. Also, if you are stopped at a light and someone walks in front of you truck it will start beeping. That is it in a nutshell.

I would probably start by using the dynamic cruise control as a preliminary test.

If you're not getting a "PCS unavailable" message on the display, it is working. /thread

Your wife's rav4 has front parking sensors. Your Tacoma doesn't. Sounds to me like you're confusing parking sensors with PCS.

    That is not PCS..

You're confusing it with parking sensors. There is no beeping for PCS

When my PCS was working, it would beep. When I got the false BRAKE light on the dash, it also beeped.

It only beeps if a collision is imminent it doesn't beep for parking lol.

OP clearly described parking sensors, he thinks the parking sensors on his wife's RAV4 is part of the Safety Sense... completely different systems. Tacomas don't even have front parking sensors on ANY trim the feature simple doesn't exist.

It does beep if it detects a collision, but not at low speeds like in a parking lot.

I understand how the system is supposed to work. I commute in a lot of stop and go traffic. The PCS used to give me warnings if I got too close to another vehicle. Since the recall, the PCS does not. I've tried to run up on another car pretty aggressively and I've run the sensitivity up and down to no avail. I'll try the dynamic cruise control next. I'm pretty sure it works as I use it frequently and I don't recall it not working.

My truck doesn't do this and I know the system is operating as designed. I did get a brake warning when some asshat though it would be fun to pull out in front of me. I was able to override and brake myself because I did anticipate his move, but really didnt think he would go through with it.
Now the rear parking sensors will beep if in reverse and getting too close. Also, there is an annoying setting that can be done with Carista, where if you are in drive and someone gets too close to behind you, it will beep. I had that one turned one for about 15 minutes, once I figured out what it did, I turned it back off.

I recently bought a 2019 TRD off road and the PCS was beeping and breaking correctly. Had the windshield replaced due to factory defect and it wouldn't do anything. Now, I was aware of the recall but it seemed coincidental that it stopped right after the replacement. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the grill sensor and windshield camera work together so I thought the recalibration they performed had maybe messed it up. Cruise is working correctly though.

Anyway, just picked it up yesterday for windshield seal issue and PCS recall work performed. I don't care what they say...I drove this truck for 4000 miles with the PCS working to an annoying level and now I can run up someone's butt without a single beep, much less any breaking. Corporate says I just have to keep bringing it back to dealer for diagnosis. Guess they won't accept the facts until the front end is smashed in. Personally I'd like to see them pay owners back the money they were charged for the system and forget it.

2019 TRD OR, MT. I had a false alert 4 weeks ago. Installed a faux TRD PRO grille last weekend and found the sensor plug was not completely snapped into the sensor. Intermittent signal? Working perfectly since. Check your connections!

Typically there’s 2 types of safety features. One is a forward emergency braking which may only work at a few inches before impact only to lessen the blow and the intelligent cruise is the distance keeping sensor in the windshield.

Having spent a large portion of my career in automotive manufacturing, stuff happens. Even after error proofing & redundant testing things like a wire harness plug not fully engaged can get through.

My message is try to check things out yourself before dropping your Taco in the dealers hands. The more you learn about the systems and features on your truck the less you will worry.

These trucks are damn good, maybe the best ones out there. Have fun!
