The most notable visual addition to the Tacoma TRD Pro is the new Desert Air Intake. This optional feature is often misunderstood as a snorkel for fording into water, but there is a logical application on dry land.

Is it really going to be an option or will all pro's have to have it. I'm hearing all pro's will have it and for me that's a show stopper

Has anyone got confirmation that it's an option.

As most news said it's an option but that is that all other models do not have it so in that way it's and option you get automatically when you buy a TRD Pro

Toyota Tacoma commercials airing in my area feature that TRD Pro - I just figured it was a factory perma-options to add after buying the truck. Shrugged it off.

Seems to appeal to the overlanding crowd, which is a community that largely sticks to Jeeps/Toyotas at the moment. At least those are the vehicles that I see when I am out in the forests. So the appeal makes business sense for sure for Toyota.

I can tell who the overlanders are because their vehicles are always loaded with a bunch of gear.

I respect and I am interested in overlanding, but from the prospective of an outsider, it seems like a bunch of posers who love little gizmos and electronics. They all have snorkels and armored bumpers on their vehicles, but how many actually are executing weeks long desert treks? Or submerging their rigs in shallow water? Most of the time, I see these rigs at State/National parks like Yosemite, which makes zero sense to me. My bone stock Tacoma got me through Holister SRVA and the Eldorado national forest with no issues. Yes, it would have been much easier and probably more fun with better tires and suspension, but stock is enough for most applications.

When I got out in the wild, all I need is my compressed tent, compressed sleeping bag, my mora/old hickery knife, fire starter and whatever food/water I can stick in my backpack. That's it. Maybe a gun for protection, but that's it.

Overlanders just seem to bring a bunch of junk from Amazon/online retailer or overlanding expo into public campgrounds.

You have to take into consideration that these vehicles are not dedicated trail rigs.

My truck will be at Zion, Bryce, Antelope, Capital Reef and some others in October and it will be on 35s and 5.29 gears. Just because I’m enjoying a national park doesn’t mean I don’t also bust my truck down some rock crawling trails back home. I obviously don’t need 35s to visit these parks but I’m also not going to uninstall them just because they aren’t needed.

Many overland vehicles are also DDs and it can be a pain in the ass to remove gear that is strapped or locked on so we leave it.

Are some people posers? Sure but many are not.

I really hope is the same in Canada. We always get less choice and this time I will buy if it's an option to keep off and if not then won't .
