    Hey Everyone,

I have a 2019 Tacoma V4 that makes a rattling/humming noise when accelerating around 1500 RPM. It goes away at higher RPMs but the noise is getting pretty annoying. Sound won’t occur when in park, only occurs when accelerating and stays constant at times when at 1500 RPM.

Had a mechanic lift up the truck and he said everything was tightened well. Heat shields and all.

I did have my catalytic converter replaced with an aftermarket one due to the OEM being stolen. Mechanic also said the converter was welded in nicely and secured.

I’m think maybe something is loose inside the converter itself?

I’ve read various threads on the forums and can’t find a solid answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve also posted a video, don’t mind the clinging sound of my keys.

Do you have aftermarket skid plates?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Check the shield mounted to the floor above the cat is secure and/or bend it away if it’s touching the cat

I had the same sound and only vibrated/rattled at certain RPM's......it was one of the heat shields, maybe check them again?

Probably will have it lifted again to see if anything is touching the cat. Noise literally sounds like like something stuck in a fan.

Hey OP—did you get this resolved, and if so, what aftermarket cat did you go with? Mine was stolen and the dealership is on like a 6 month backorder for a new one. I ordered a cheapo direct fit and it’s throwing the P420 code, so I guess I need to try a slightly better replacement cat.

Nope noise still occurs. I haven’t ran a diagnostic on it yet. Check engine light does not come on.

Update, it’s not any of the heat shields. Sound seems to be coming from the back as well. Really odd.

The cat on my first gen tacoma had the internals come loose and it made a rattling noise when accelerating.
If your sound started when the cat was replaced then I wouldn't rule that out.
Could lay under the truck and have someone slowly rev the truck up to 2500rpm or so. (Make sure you trust them not to drop it in gear and run you over...)

    Yes it’s a V4.

Sounds only occur when accelerating around 1500 RPM like in the video.

Don’t want to take it to the dealer yet for them to charge me for diagnostic test. Trying to find a Toyota specialist locally.

Only stated occurring a few months ago.

Watched a few YouTube videos about the U joints and it sounds like screeching that’s occurring. It also sounds more constant and occurs at higher speeds.

My truck is making more of a rattling/humming noise only when accelerating and between 1500-2000 RPM. Sound doesn’t occur at higher speeds or RPM. It’s odd for sure.

I have the same issue and I just crawled under and checked and the heat shield is torn a little bit where the flange of the bolt meets the heat shield above the cat. I’m going to try and remove it temporarily and see if that make a difference and possibly find a new one if it does
