Hello, I need some opinions on the amount of rust on my 2019 Tacoma. The truck was used by the previous owner in Illinois where there is a lot of snow and salt on the roads. As a result, there are some rust concerns in the undercarriage of my vehicle. (See Pictures)

    1) How concerning is the rust? Concerning enough to sell the vehicle?
    2) The Toyota rust warranty mentions only sheet metal body panels. Are these parts covered?
    3) How would I go about preventing further rust without voiding the warranty?

I now live in a state with mild winters. I would like to keep the vehicle but this level of rust is concerning given it was manufactured only in 2019. Appreciate the advice.

Wow, Toyota does/did have a recall on the front box frame where they inspect, spray and put in plugs. They did my 2016, I have since sprayed the entire bottom of my truck with crc(one of the three recommend here) I did however wire brush and spray some rust oleum before the treatment. I plan on treating the frame every year or two. My truck is in upstate ny so salt is used frequently. I would power wash wire brush off the surface rust and treat. Good luck

    Oh look, another mod....

This truck looks like a total goner. Because I'm a kind person (just ask anyone on this site), I'll take the truck off your hands for...$40. Cash.

I do not believe it’s a goner by any means. I would consider replacing what components you can, suspension, leaf springs, bolts…, that have excessive rust then take to a place like Crown Rust proofing and have them thoroughly fluid film the undercarriage. I recently had my taco done, they do great work.
Obviously if your frame has holes in it then this may not be an appropriate solution.

    The truck is fine
    It’s surface rust
Clean it up with a wire brush where you can and paint the cleaned up area’s with satin rust oleum then hit it with some cosmoline , CRC or fluid film and you’ll be 100 percent fine

Too late, the vehicle would probably be considered totalled. Just kidding. That is nothing to be worried about. Clean it up and then get it sprayed with fluid film/crown every fall before the salt goes down.

That’s all normal, don’t make it more than it is. Drive it enjoy it. If your that worried use some pur15 or fluid Film.

Pay attention to some of the F150’s driving around in the northeast if you want to see surface rust
Some of those are 1 year old

Looks like a normal vehicle from the rust belt. Toyota is known for rust issues but I've seen plenty of newer GM vehicles with more rust than my 2017 Tacoma.

Nevertheless salt is terrible for the undercarriage of any vehicle, I wish they would come up with something else. It s such an uphill battle which really is lousy.

I’ll beat the $40 offer. Say $240. Lol

Can the moving components be cosmolined or fluid film covered? Or just the body and frame ect.

if someone has done this, do they also spray the gas tank and all the exhaust and moving parts?

Not too concerning. You can take rust preventive measures- undercoating. There are few good ones out there.
