I wonder if it is a hint at more... maybe a mid travel setup to go with it. Toyota has to be feeling the heat with the ZR2 and the return of the Ford Ranger (and the Ranger Raptor currently being tested). Hopefully they can keep the competitive edge.

LOL, Toyota isn't trying to compete with Chevy or Ford, they have absolutely no reason to either.

Look at the sales numbers month over month. The Tacoma out sells the GM twins by a lot. The ZR2 is a big piece of shit, and is NOT a threat to TRD PRO sales...like, at all...

The Ford Ranger isn't here yet, but it is very unlikely it's sales # will be more than the Tacoma. Will it be better, maybe, but again Toyota isn't competing against Ford's new mid-size offering.

They’ve had no real competition in the segment, I think they have to worry about it. I agree the ZR2 is a piece of shit, doesn’t stop idiots from buying it though. They’d be crazy not to feel somewhat threatened.

I have owned about 20 cars and trucks in the last 30 years. I can honestly say that of those ONE has rear discs.

So industry standard for 30 years?? Yeah, sure 5% makes it an industry standard I guess.:rofl::rofl:

Dam, I came here to check out the snorkel, now leaving to drive my truck off a cliff because it's got shitty drum brakes in the rear.

If you don't like the braking system, spend shitbtons of money modding it or...you ready for this

Don't buy the fucking truck with shitty rear drum brakes.

Oh and if anyone thinks that the Ford ranger will not take a bite out of the Tacoma sales is wrong. Just like the ridgeline and Chevy are currently taking a few sales away. Will it have a drastic impact, doubt it. But for every ranger, ridgeline, frontier or Colorado sold, that's one Taco not bought. I am excited for the competition, just wish there had been more the last 10 years so the 3rd gen would have been at another level coming to the market.

I'd say there's a much, much higher likelihood of hybrid ahead of diesel. I personally wouldn't complain about a hybrid.
Their at 100% torque as soon as they start turning. I would be a potential beast off road, additional mpg's, and hybrid can be
spunky on the road(see Tesla for details).

It would increase the price on the trucks for sure, but hybrid reliability is proven with the prius.

    This.

in North America with all the EPA and taxes etc they are trying to get more and more electric. so can easily see Hybrid.
And like you said dude with you on the more torque.
Diesel obviously has the torque too but hybrid would be great too. As long as the electric motors are sealed so water doesn't bother them.

Here's my truck on a trail in WA. Definitely gets dusty here...granted, it was the driest summer ever recorded and I was on the eastern side of the cascades with wild fires going on...
My air filter and cabin air filter had to be cleaned out when we were done.

Also, while completely doable without a snorkel (the 2 previous tacomas did), this local 3rd gen hydrolocked and a snorkel would have helped.[IMG]

Just going to leave your comments here...

    - Fine with me

You would use it every day and every 4x4 trail.

    - I think you know very well what I meant

You're suggesting that the PNW has less dust in 4x4 trails. What?

    - And here I thought that stuff in the sky was rain and drizzle. Must be that dust you speak of. You realize that on a hot day (and there are not many) in Western WA and OR, the humidity is still in the upper 30's into the 40's right? Most days in the summer it's upper 40's. You realize it rains or is drizzly ~200 days a year or so up here, and cloudy for many others? You realize forest roads dry out slower because they are in constant shade? I suppose if you're out in eastern WA/OR in a lineup of vehicles and you're not in front you might want it, but that's extremely rare for me. Most of my time over there is in the winter, when everything is frozen. Like I said, I'm not in <20% humidity where the dust is a nightmare.

Because people see water and/or mud and go full retard and hit them full speed ahead.....low and slow is the key or else you pay a stupid tax.

Looks like the leaked promo ad worked for hype of the new pros.

12 pages and 231 post later of people arguing weather they need a snorkel or would use it.

I watched a video and they asked about why the hood scoop wasn’t functional. The reason the scoop isn’t functional is because it causes too much turbulence in the engine and ends up doing more harm then good per the Toyota Engineer. I’ll have to find the video.
