The aftermarket tailgate cable doesn't have a quick disconnect outside of the tailgate. You have to remove the cover to get to the connector.

    Edit:. The aftermarket Toyota one

So am I. The camera and tailgate lock both have plugs outside the tailgate. That's what I said. It's made so you can unplug both of them to remove the tailgate. They are/will be located underneath the truck near the rear.

I just installed this two weeks ago and there was no quick disconnect.
    I'm done responding, you win.

It is possible I didn't see it, I guess.

Then something was wrong. I installed this weeks ago and there was a plug on my harness.

Passenger side. Facing rear. The unplugged plug is the OEM camera. I have an aftermarket camera that is relocated. That's what is plugged in there. Black plug is the Toyota tailgate lock. All on my 2017.

Ok, I just went and checked mine. It is there. My apologies, I did not recall it being there. Thanks for the correction.

I double take on the post saying to disconnect in the passenger footwell o_O how’s that going to help removing the tailgate

one thing I noticed (have the parts but not installed) I dont see an extra plug to seal the connector (like the camera) in the kit when/if you remove the tailgate

There isn't one. Your truck should have come with one for the camera. There's two halves to that. Maybe the other half works? Or maybe you can source the blank plugs from the dealer or something.

    Thanks everyone for the response!
I might just replace my poplock with the OEM Tailgate lock.
This way I can also reroute the wire harness through the grommet under the passenger seat.

Also it didn't help that I mistakenly pushed out the wrong vehicle body grommet (floor plug). This picture shows the location of the one you should push out. It's kind of halfway hidden above the truck's frame. I had pushed out the one located a bit further to the rear of the truck, and more towards the center of the truck. I manged to get that one back in place without removing the carpet.. but it wasn't easy. Don't do what I did!

I did this yesterday evening on mine and my son's truck. The kit is awesome, everything went as planned. The only complaint is the metal wire ties but they worked. The kit is all plug and play and pretty easy. Took me and my son an hour or so on mine and his took 45 min. since we knew what we were doing. Toyota should be proud of this kit, very good thinking on the rubber stoppers secured to the wire loom and the wires from the actuator. Very well thought out.

Yes I have the plugs for the camera- we’re talking about for the tailgate though. (Which are different from each other- 4 plug/2 plug). For a complete kit like they provided with the plastic dual harness clips, heat shielded harness/metal ties, grommet etc they sure missed this one thing with the plugs on tailgate removal as they did with the camera. Will I ever remove the tailgate… probably not but I feel incomplete

sourcing would be the only option. I forgot to take a picture of the other end

Do y'all really think the tailgate lock wiring plug and receptacle need a cover? The camera has one because it carries a low level video signal, and is susceptible to degradation with slight oxidation of the connectors. The tailgate connection is 12vdc at probably a couple of amps.. a much more robust signal.
