Did you happen to calculate from the odometer and gallons for that sample? That’s a nice number. I’d be very happy also.

Yah stock tires. Only change I have is a tonneau cover. I’ve been driving pretty low key though tbh.

    Not bad.
Are those books field guides and such? You come down to Sacramento for work?

Nah book delivery for my in laws business. I was just visiting family in Sac so timing worked out. Lived in sac since I was a kid before moving to Idaho last year.

    Sounds good.
Boise is a swell place. I’ve been up there for work, actually, visiting the BLM offices. Really enjoyed my visit.

Very interesting read of 11 pages... Those "Then you should have bought a Prius " jokes just speak to all the dads on this forum. :D Had my 2019 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB now about a month and 800+ miles and filled up my third tank of gas. Drove a 95 4Runner for about 10 years before "upgrading" to this Tacoma and my mpg was always about 15. Knew I wouldn't be blown away with the Tacoma but I've been shocked that I struggle to hit 14mpg in city. Took a trip on the highway and I couldn't even hit 17, (mostly cruse control going 70 and more hills). Live in Texas, climate is 60 degrees and it's reasonably flat. We're at about 750 above sea level. Mostly stock, tonneau cover, psi at about 40, no lift.

Went down to Toyota Service and happened to talk to their big chief. He gave me some jumbo about needing to "break it in" and to come back when I hit 1200 miles and he'll hook it up to a machine and we'll drive it around a bit. Not sure I believe this mumbo talk of the truck just magically preforming better once it breaks in or when the transmission gets to know me better.

My first, second and third thought is that it must be the truck because goodness knows I've logged some serious driving miles in my 40 years on earth. Still, I'm reminded of my father's old saying about computers and when I'd get mad at something not working... He'd say, "It only does what you tell it to do". That saying could be modified to, "The Tacoma only runs how you drive it" and that was the message I've read from a few posters in the last 11 pages.

Surely it couldn't be me!! I know how to drive a truck :muscleflexing:

Decided to take er easy and really focus on the driving. Stay at the speed limit and "glide" as much as possible, be light on the brake and light on acceleration. It was a short drive in the city with a few lights and left turns and when I got to where I was going, turned off the engine and wouldn't you know it... My trip mpg average from 8 min city drive was 17.2! That is about a 4mpg improvement and a number I can live with. I learned that by nature, I'm an aggressive driver and I like going faster around curbs and shooting off the line a bit. It doesn't make me a bad person, it just means that I'm not going to be one of those, "I get 24mpg on my commute to work while eating a muffin" kind of dude and that's ok. My concern was centered around why my truck wasn't getting the same gas mileage as others even though it's exactly the same make, model and year.

The answer is obviously the driver + whatever weather, geographical challenges and modifications you got going on.

Now that I know nothing is wrong with the truck and in theory it could achieve better gas mileage, I'm going to drive the truck how I like because goodness knows I paid enough for it! :oldglory:

Here’s my commute up to Seattle in stop n go traffic. I’m lifted 2.5 on 285/75r16 e rated 10 ply. On my way back home.. same traffic and got about .5 better. I get 15.5 in the city, 14 if I don’t give a shit. 6700 miles on the odometer.

Bought used Dec ‘19 with TRD pro grille, grabber ATx tires 285/75r16, small unknown lift kit. Installed TRD Grille accent lights, Anzo headlights. aluminum running boards.
Bought my TRD OR used at 60k miles. It has grabber ATx 265/75r16, tonneau cover, and aftermarket aluminum nerf bars. I usually get 12-14 mpg in city. 16 mpgs on highway.

21.5ish in the winter, 22-23 in the summer. Mixed hilly curvy roads with speeds 35-65. Best tank of 24mpg when I was really soft on the pedal. 245/75-16 minivan tires.

I think the 2.7 is easier on the gas as I drive pretty aggressively.

ETA: My first couple tanks were ~18mpg. It started getting better as it broke in.

Not all of Florida is “Flat”. North Florida especially towards Tallahassee gets pretty hilly. Not mountains hilly but enough to keep the transmission guessing all the time.
