...also, what's your elevation change on this commute? I have seen worse results when going through the passes. But then this should average on the descent

I resemble that... my 2018 Limited averaged more that 19 MPG during the “book” indicated break-in period (first 1000 miles), and I rarely see anything below 20 MPG on routine individual trip calculations now. I’m not sure if I’m “elderly” yet... maybe -lol

In a prius maybe. No way you are getting that in the V6 Tacoma.

I average around 17.5 or 18, daily commute is around 45 miles round trip with traffic being heavy at times. I'm sure if I was driving city daily, my MPG would be shit.

Ive got a 2018 DCSB OR. On the highway im lucky to get 16ish on anything over 75. In the city (i have like 10 lights for 16 miles at like 35-45mph) i get 23ish. combined i sit around 20. Thats stock. And my truck just got its 10k service.

Those numbers they post are in perfect lab conditions .Its not super common to get those in the real world for most people.

You're about average with most people around here.

If those numbers are that terrible to you maybe you shouldn't have bought a truck.

As others have mentioned though speed and terrain play a big role.

I can get 11.7L/100km (20mpg roughly) if I keep it under 110km (65mph?) and not a lot of hills and my truck is heavy and has 33s.

But go any faster and I'm more around 15L/100km if not worse.

If I'm on one of the highways that has a lot of hills same thing, it goes down.

If you want to get the best mpg possible, don't modify, keep passenger tires, accelerate slowly and don't go fast.

    Otherwise go buy a Prius

The Tacoma is a brick from an aerodynamic perspective, the OR a little bit worse. Heavy mid-size truck, being pushed by a V6 not optimized for fuel economy.
Don't expect much, even after break in. Toyota is not building a fuel mizer truck, to appeaze 2% of the buyers out there.

Loaded to the gills, with rack bag on top of the shell, I got between 19.5 - 20.5 on vacation (mixture of interstate, 2-lane backroad) And that was even thru Mobile Alabama traffic on July 4th weekend........

Now, everyday driving, my mileage is directly correlated to the weight of my right foot. But I didn't buy the truck hoping for stellar mileage. If I'd wanted that, I'd bought a Prius......

Your poor MPG is most likely a result of driving style... not saying you’re a bad driver, just suggesting MPG improvement can be made by those things you control. I’m not a tree hugger, but this site may provide some informative tactics you can use to see better MPG averages.

I have a couple of large stretch of hills too on my way there. Roughly 80 the whole way.

With stock tires you can do really good

On a flat 150 mile trip I got 27mpg but that was at traffic between 50 and 60.

    At 65 I got around 24mpg. Mixed driving I was at 22mpg.

I come from an old lifted wrangler that would fight me at high speeds so I got in a habit of just cruising.

When my truck was stock, and I tried, I could hit those numbers no problem provided the driving conditions promoted it.

    • Very little stop and go
    • Steady speed at ~55-65mph
    • Easy when accelerating

Maybe for a Tacoma, in every GM product I've owned it was easy to get the numbers. Often I could get better. I bought a 2002 Z28 six speed in Dallas, TX and drove 80mph back to Mississippi and was getting 28mpgs.

that's the thing. the question is who is happy to drive like that all the time. many are, many are not. i actually got the truck to slow my roll after too many performance cars. turns out the Tacoma is so fun to drive that i cannot keep my foot out of it. so i pay for my fun daily buying fuel. no problem with that since having fun is a priority for survival in life.
