I'm wondering if any of you have had complaints about bluetooth calls on your trucks? I've had mine for 3 weeks and friends and customers have always said that my voice sounds muffled and even scratchy to the point that it's hard to understand me. I finally made it down to the dealership today and they tested it and said it sounded fine to everyone they called. I made calls to my friends and family and they all said it sounded terrible. I even called my brother in law whose name is on the dealership and he said it sounded muffled. they then brought out a brand new 19 and we connected my phone to it and made several calls. theirs all said it sounded fine, mine all said it sounded just my system. They did say that they had ordered a replacement mic for another customer, but hand't received it yet. So, I have a couple of questions. have any of you guys experienced this? Also, does anyone know of aftermarket mic that would plug in to the stock head unit? If they all sound like this one, that may be my only choice. I conduct close to half of my business out of my truck and customers are telling me to take them off bluetooth and talk on the hand unit.

I'd believe your family and friends, the dealers are useless.

Seems pretty cut and dry. If it sounded fine with your phone on a different truck, then the problem is with your truck. What more do they need? I would find a different dealership, one willing to earn your future business.

No, it sounded the same as my truck. I was told that's how they all sound. The service manager talked to the factory rep today. I was told he pretty much admitted there was a known probability of this kind of problem. Apparently its pretty hit and miss with Tacomas and Tundras. Said they have no problem with the SUVs and cars. These are fairly cheap head units and there are little to no after market parts that can plug and play with them, so my only recourse is to use and bluetooth ear unit or install an aftermarket head unit and new mic. First time I've ever been disappointed in a Toyota.

Lets clear this up. So even the new truck they pulled around sounded the same as yours, with your phone?
If that's the case, maybe its something to do with your phone/provider.
I thought it was better with the other truck.
I have made several calls via Bluetooth and everyone says it sounds great. I called my daughter from the truck and she couldn't even tell the difference.

The way I read it was as follows:
OPs truck + OP = muffled
OPs truck + dealer guy = not muffled
dealer truck + OP = muffled
dealer truck + dealer guy = not muffled

Maybe OPs voice is just like that, kinda like how Bigfoot is actually blurry. Or maybe the dealer guy is full of it.

Connect a friends phone to the bluetooth and make the same calls. It might be your phone.

OP, see if you can get the dealer guy to let you make a call to one of your contacts with his phone connected, and see what that call sounds like.
That way you are not just going off what the dealer says, but you have a non biased person telling what it sounds like to them.

We did that. I called a friend on his phone from the new truck and asked him how it sounded now. I didn't tell him I was in a different truck. He said "It sounds like shit". The GM broke in and asked him to describe the sound. He said the best way he could describe it was that it sounded like a 1997 Radio Shack install. Very muffled with occasional static, which is what everyone else has described. I'm going to connect my wife's phone to it and call her and see if there is any difference.

Probably not helpful for you but my 2019 Sport is pretty clear on the phone. Haven't heard any complaints from people I talk to. (Although I haven't heard it from outside of the truck)

Where is the microphone on the truck? Maybe you need to talk towards it.

That's pretty strange. I'd say it's your phone but if other phones behave the same way I think that can be ruled out. My 2018 Sport and now 2019 OR are both exceptionally clear sounding. Many times while talking to people they'll ask me to write something down. When I tell them I can't because I'm driving they are amazed. And I just talk. I make no effort to crane my head or try to direct my voice towards the speaker or speak extra loud. I'm working with and iPhone 7. Not a bad phone but not the latest greatest. It would be interesting to see if a different phone in a different truck makes a difference. ie, a new truck on dealers lot and someone else's current model phone.

I have had complaints also. They say that its really muffled. This really annoys me too but I am usually just bs-ing with a buddy or calling the wife. If i had to rely on it for work calls i would probably look into addressing it. Side note: my friend has a 2017 Nissan Frontier and his always sounds like hes under water and 20' from his mic. Anyway, keep us updated if you figure this out. Thanks.

If you haven't done this, I would delete the Bluetooth on the truck and on the phone and reconnect everything.

My 2019 Tacoma Sport is in the shop right now for this exact complaint. The told me there is not updates regarding the issue and claim the mic worked fine when paired with another phone. My Bluetooth connects fine and plays music through the stereo great so I can't believe it is my iphone X but I will test it. Very disappointed with the feature as well. Has anyone looked into a replacement microphone?

The dealer told me they ordered a replacement mic on 8/20 and it’s not been acknowledged yet, so it’s at least 4-6 weeks out.
