I mean it sucks don't get me wrong. My buddy had one I'm looking at mine constantly because of it. But for 750 bucks, you're getting off super easy

Understood and agreed with the exception that this being my 4th toyota, it the first that needed a RSM so soon. Earliest I ever needed one before was at 160k on my 98 4runner. My 2010 prerunner had 260K when my stepson sold it, not a drip on it at all.

I honestly feel like the light weight oil doesn’t help matters. Another EPA thing

Honestly it’s not that big of a deal. If it’s weeping after factory warranty, I’d just continue to drive it. I drove with mine weeping for a 5k interval, and noticed no difference in oil level.

Wonder if they would notice if you accidentally spilled some oil on the seal causing it to drip on the ground. Just sayin...

My 2018 just had its RMS replaced under warranty. First trip in, they confirmed the seep, cleaned it off, put dye in the oil, and said to come back after putting 1000 miles on it. A few months later and a couple road trips, took it in for its 2nd visit, and left with an extended test drive of a Rav 4. Took about two days to fix it. So far, so good.

Next up, timing cover, whenever that gets around to getting its leak on.

Just curious, did it end up leaking or seeping more? I got a 23' trd offroad and when i went to check underneath the first time it looked exactly like yours, sort of like soot but didnt spready like how oil normally does. I cleaned it up and drove it some thousand kilometers. Went to check it out and it had a film again and some dust but not as much as before. I took off the cover to see if it was oil but it had like a greasy consistentcy. I stuck my finger in the inspection hole and it was relavely dry but had a stickyness. I read that it could be assembly lube heating up and oozing down the bellhousing. I wiped once again and now its just a monitoring game
