2019 Tacoma TRD Sport Access Cab
I have a 2010 TRD access cab but unfortunately I may be in the market for a new truck after a mishap last week up in Canada towing my snowmobile home from a 4 day trip. Slick roads, rear end slipped and I couldn’t gather it back with the trailer pushing things along. I am waiting to hear from the insurance company but since the side air bags went off when it rolled up on the passenger door when it hit the bank (and then flopped back down on the wheels) I am expecting the worst. There was passenger side damage in addition the the side airbags.

I have started doing my home work on a new Gen3. I am leaning towards a 4x4, automatic Sport. Either access or crew. Looking around I am finding some new 2018 and of course 2019 trucks on the lots.

    Just a few questions since I have not been keeping up with gen3;

    1) Are their any significant differences between a 2018 and 2019? Other then resale is there a reason one year is better then the other?

    2) Ball park what would a good deal be under sticker for the 2019? We are talking about a roughly$36k truck.

    3) how much more of a discount would be reasonable if I bought a new 2018 off the lot?

I am the type of guy who keeps my trucks 10 years so resale value isn’ my biggest concern. I am located in the Buffalo,NY area if that matters. This will be a clean cash deal.

    Thank you.

    Dan

    I was on the fence for a '18 or '19: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2019-vs-2018.584472/
There is info there that you might find useful.

I plan on keeping the truck for longer too so decided to go for a 2020. Head unit, seating and led lighting is the reason although my dealer might persuade me with a crazy deal on a new '18 or '19.

Seems to be getting a little late to find many choices in 2018s. Better decide soon or your choice will be made for you.

I expect to hear from insurance this coming week. Once I know for sure I’ll pull the trigger. I don’t want to be driving a Kia rental car forever!

See if you can find a certified 18 with very low miles . Save money and you still have factory warranty and extended warranty too .

And also apparently the 2020 Tacoma brought back the driver side bed cubby. There’s a YouTube video about it. I personally feel it just ain’t complete without it. If I did it all over again. I would either get a 18 certified while you still can or simlyy just wait fo the 2020. Id pass on the 19. The cubby is a deal breaker for me. It’s very useful. Go for 2020!

I would normally agree, but after recently being in the market for a nice used Tacoma, my experience was the dealer prices were the same as new. *IF you can find a nice low miles example, which isn't easy.
I got 3K off a new one and did better than buying a certified used. Finance rates are better on new vehicles too.

I did a lot internet surfing to find my certified sport . Every day for like a month , I really like my deal but you are right some one year old and even some two year old Tacoma's are as much as new .

Have ever driven one? Better yet get one as a rental and get the feel . Nothing beats a extended drive. That way you won’t get buyers remorse. BTW , I love my 2017. Drives better now than when new.

I have not yet. I really liked my 2010 and didn’t have any plans replacing it anytime soon. Hoping the gen3 drives similar.

It doesn't . You have to adjust your driving style if not you're in for a big surprise . I deeply suggest you get a rental and drive it for or more than a day. Around town and in the freeway / mountains . But like most of us, you'll get used to it and lovel it once you have adjusted the way you drive. Once RPM is at near 3000, it will be at it's happiest and it will pull like no other .

You will want to drive a 3rd gen before buying. The 2GR engine likes to rev, and you'll most likely find the torque curve different from your 2nd gen. I'm not saying it's worse, just different.
I have a manual trans, so no comment on the A/T in the 3rd gens.

Don't let invoice and all that other stiff kid you. You can spin paperwork any way You want it to look. The dealer margin is 15%. You should have no trouble getting a 2018 for 15% off sticker. 10% off 2019. And retail on the2020 is probably going to be a push at first. I bought my 2019 a month ago. Walked in. Said 10% off sticker and a $400 we owe check for accessories before we even talk or i will walk to thedealer down the road. He literally said pick your truck and find me when you are done. Signed the deal an hour later.

2019 has an updated transmission software, better financing rate, one year newer.

To lenders, the financing rate will be the same 2018 vs. 2019 if both are brand new.
You may actually get a better rate through Toyota on a 2018 than a 2019 *IF* that is an incentive they may offer for a limited time in certain areas of the country.

Not a true statement for my experience. Rates were cheaper on 2019. Toyota finance is actually capital one.

picked my truck up three weeks ago Sunday! I used Capital one it was pretty easy! I went in at 8pm Sunday done by 10:30 that evening washed and fueled tagged and so very clean! Easiest purchase I have made of a new truck in 20 years! The dealer was letting the 2019 go for cheap which I jumped on I know they knew the 2020 where around the corner so it was all good for me!

Pretty sure there is $1000 rebate going on right now too, not sure if it only applies to 18 or both 18 and 19.

Looking for a new '19 Sport Access Cab. One dealer had a new leftover '18 Off Road Access Cab that they wanted to sell and kept steering me to during negotiations. Wasn't my first choice of colors, but between the $1,000 rebate, and net trade difference it was a no-brainer from a value standpoint.

If i was you I'd hold off on a 2020. If you plan on keeping it for a long time i would hold off. At the very least get a 2019.
