I traded my 2 year old TRDOR for $4k less than I paid for it and it had a damaged rear bumper. If you count the insurance check I received I lost $2k in 2 years. Trust me, Tacoma resale is doing just fine. You just need to be looking at the right places (i.e. almost anyone but Toyota).

Having owned both a ZR2 (diesel) and my current Tacoma, both are just as capable stock. Tacoma will go anywhere and everywhere a ZR2 could.
Yes, mods are much more fun with the Tacoma than the ZR2, that I would agree with.
I wasn’t that impressed with the ZR2 OP. Don’t waste your money on the diesel either. EPA made sure to rob that engine of its true capability. The V6 in the ZR2 May be badass though. Suspension was nice on the ZR2 but not worth 800 dollars a shock if you break one.....

I’ve had the opposite experience. The ZR2 diesel had every issue you can think of with the DPF, fuel filters, emissions codes, regen cycles you name it. I finally had to ditch it before the 3/36 ran out. Guess I could have had a lemon though. Who knows.
    Tacoma=ZERO issues
Can’t speak for the chevys V6 engine though. That one may be good....don’t really care to find out though as I love my Tacoma and won’t have to worry about any issues for several years.

Tacoma resales is not fine if you actually off road. My 19 taco dclb or with 35k miles is worth 28k because of scratches on my skid plates and dented drive shaft and dented cross member. I was told taking it off road lowers the resale value. I use my truck for work which involves going off road. I’m done with people saying the taco holds it value.

But yeah I’ve had zero issues with the truck.

I owned a 2016 Colorado and it was a pile of dogshit. My Tacoma hasn’t been to the dealer but maybe 2 times in 2 years. Colorado had a total of 14 dealer visits in the 19 months I owned it. Never again chevy.

Any truck you off road will lower in value, if you bought a Colorado and a Tacoma both for let's say $35k. Then you off road both and attempt to sell at lets say 40k miles. The Tacoma will be worth more.

Only clearly visible traces of off roading will lower the value. Carmax probably wouldn't even look at that stuff so unless you have dents and scratches it's worth the same as a tacoma that's never been off road.

With enough fab work, you CAN...

If you are looking for an off the shelf kit that you will ever get marginally close to recouping on resale, forget it.

Chevy makes good engines and buys good drive trains. Thier interior parts are terrible. They just fall apart and quit working. Go ride in a 100,000 mile Chevy and ride in a 100,000 mile toyota. Your decision will be made.

Do the Tacomas magically stop rattling inside and the rear leaf springs stop squeaking once you get that many miles on them? Sure hope so, getting damn tired of listening to all the noises in my $38k 2017 TRD OR.

Lol nah I don't expect so. I am talking about window motors, glove boxes, dash gage failures, door interiors that fall apart, seats that just lock in place or fall back, blend door control motors that blow heat on one side and ac on the other, sunroofs that fall in because the plastic clips fail, tailgate handles that break inside, trim that falls off, door hinges that squall when you open and close, and on and on. Just hope in a used Chevy, and a used Toyota, or Honda, and see

Lol. Fair enough. Right now I'm dealing with a fuel door that just stopped closing correctly. At 58k the Toyotas I've had in the past held up much better than the fit and finish of this 2017. So you're saying I won't have better results with a ZR2? :notsure:

Makes me glad the Taco doesn't have a diesel, I imagine people would be having similar issues, but who knows. You probably did have a lemon, I see people talk about those issues on every diesel. Doesn't mean the engine in general is bad, just the one in your truck is bad.

Tbh, I don't get the hype of diesels in a midsize. IIRC they're heavier, and Tacoma's already don't have much payload, compared to full size trucks. Granted you'll always have those people where everything needs to have a diesel/V8. Even the Ranger, which has never even had a V8?

Dang, I am sorry you are having troubles with you Tacoma too. That stinks man.
I have seen so many vehicles in out the door when I was a service advisor, Toyota, Honda failures were usually aberrations, the Chevys we all pretty much knew what was going on when they walked up and described the problem. I guess thats the best way to explain it.

Ever since the EPA got ahold of the diesels and started requiring DEF fluid etc, diesels in America started going downhill. 80s, 90s and early 2000s diesels were awesome and lasted a very long time. Those days are long over. I fell in the trap and hype of wanting to try a ZR2 diesel only to regret it. I’ll stick with the trusty V6.

Yeah, I hear great things about diesels. Ford's 7.3 is considered legendary to those guys. One argument people have is that the trucks overseas get diesels, so "why don't we??". Except people forget that they don't have all those emissions requirements that we do.

Yep and that’s what would kill a Tacoma diesel here is all the emissions stuff. I couldn’t tell you how many “sensors” were on just the exhaust system of my ZR2 diesel. And if they fail which they do quite often, limp mode to the dealer time lol.
yes a Toyota diesel here would be an awesome motor but when they have to meet all the emissions requirements, game over!
