It’s fine. Smash the peddle if you need to get going. Shifts a little much but I think it’s acceptable. Opinion.

I've had a 2016, 2017, and now a 2020 Tacoma (also had a 2008 but that's a separate topic). I haven't had the 2020 quite 3 weeks yet and I've only got a little over 1k on the odometer, but I think it drives better than my previous two. My 2016 never did anything weird that I recall, but my 2017 was a bit quirky. The 2020 seems to hold gears a bit longer, but also does a better job at picking the right gear when it shifts down. My 2017 would drop from 6th to 4th or 3rd sometimes, when it only needed to go to 5th.

It's still the same engine and transmission, but it does seem a bit better and a bit smoother. Though, I didn't have a lot of complaints with the others. :notsure:

Just did a fishing trip towing my boston whaler and gear with the new tacoma. Really no issue with the auto transmission as long as you keep it in the ect mode and S mode for any grades. It did fine. Granted its not my gen1 v8 tundra. With the taco you know your pulling something. I was pleasantly surprised when the display showed 19.8 mpg for the trip.
