The battery, still under warranty, died on my 2020 Tacoma on a Sunday. Went to Costco and got a replacement. How do I submit a claim for reimbursement if this is even possible? Thanks!

I believe there is a phone number in the owners manual.

My 2017 battery died in late 2018 I believe. I took it to my dealer and they replaced for free. Not sure about reimbursement but I’d call and ask them if they’re a decent dealer

I'm fairly sure the warranty only covers replacement, not reimbursement. I suspect you're SOL. If you kept the old battery, you can turn that in to Toyota and get a new one, but as for getting cash for the Costco battery? Doubt it.

There is an address in the Owners Manual for you to mail your receipt to.

I went thru this a couple months ago. Call toyota (think the number I called is in the manual) and file a claim. They will have you send them the receipt for the new battery and then send you a check.

Yea I was surprised myself. I had read on here that a few other people had done the same thing. They did not approve it during the first call but said they would escalate it and call me back. Which they did. They will give you a case number and you can follow up on it. I think it took only 2 days to have it approved. Think I had to take a picture of the mileage on the odometer.

This is good to know. Hard to drive to the dealer with a dead battery.

Here is a thread on battery reimbursement. The OP sent the receipt with pictures to the dealership service manager (see post #63 on the link below).

I’ve not heard of anyone getting a battery replaced under warranty. That’s not to say it’s never happened. I’m my experience, dead batteries are usually caused by user error.

I've done it, real easy and I had no issues.

@rob4092xx, attached is the warranty book. Page 32 is what you're looking for.

Really what? An automotive battery is a cheap replaceable wear item that can be easily abused; albeit not as much as brake and clutch pads. It you don’t know what I mean by wear item, I mean the parts of an automobile that are not designed to last the lifetime of your automobile and are also subject to a high risk of misuse by the owner. These parts are often not covered by a warranty or have a more limited warranty.

I got mine replaced under warranty at around 15k miles, 2 years into owning my 2020. Dealership said it was failing during a test when the truck was in for an oil change.

Maybe so. But they do go bad being poorly mfg. also. And they are not cheap items to replace.
