Apologies up front if this has already been addressed and is already old news, but I could not find any reference to the 2020 Remote Start capability using the search function.

Just picked up a 2020 Access Cab OR w/ these options: LED headlights, TRD Premium Off Road Package and the Technology Package.

    1. Lock the truck.
    2. After a minute or so, the interior security light will start to flash.
    3. On the remote, press lock and release.
    4. On the remote, press lock and release.
    5. On the remote, press lock and hold. (Continue holding until next step..be patient, it takes a few seconds)
    6. Exterior lights will flash several times and the engine will start.
    7. Engine turns off when opening the door or using the unlock function on the remote.

I found that you cannot lock the truck and then IMMEDIATELY remote start. You must wait for the security system to "set"...which is when the interior security light starts to flash.

Unsure if this is with every 2020 or is specific with a certain model or maybe even with a certain package. The owner's manual doesn't mention this at all (at least that I can find).

I had a very difficult time getting a straight answer about this from the dealers when trying to buy my truck. Most told me that remote start was not an option (but of course they'd be happy to add an aftermarket one for me). I believe this is only available on the models with the JBL Premium Audio which bundles with Remote Connect as part of the Connected Services.

My 2020, which has the standard audio system, does not start when I do this.

I recall seeing it was a standard feature* but I bought a manual so I'm SOL.

    *depending on option packages

^^Possibly...my truck does NOT have the JBL system because it is an Access Cab (JBL is only available in 4-door models). However, the Premium Off Road Package in the Access Cab does have "Premium Audio". That just may be the key (no pun intended) for the remote start capability. Will be interesting to see what other's chime in with.

I found out about my remote start after looking at videos from a dealer i NC. Mine is a 4 door sport but no JBL audio. My premium package consists of leather seats and moonroof

I've never owned a vehicle with manufacturer remote start. Is it normal for the engine to shut off when you open the door?

I had a 2017 civic that had a remote start. That wouldn't shut off when the door opened. You just got in pressed the start button and go.

My salesman had no clue the feature existed and actually argued with me about it. The smartphone app is a lot easier to use than the fob and it’s free for a while.

Just tried on my 2020 Sport DCAT and it's a no go. Everything happens, even the exterior lights flash but the truck never starts. I do have the Tech package but not the premium package.

I believe you need "remote connect" to have remote start which only comes on the Premium Package. At least thats how it looks when you do a build on the taco homepage

Agreed...fob operation is a bit awkward, plus there is no feedback on the fob in the event you can't see your vehicle. For instance, I have an F450 used to pull my RV. It has factory remote start and the key fob has an LED that will flash green to let you know the engine started as commanded. If it did not, the LED will flash RED. Very useful when your vehicle is not within line-of-sight.

Remote Connect utilizes a smartphone app to be able to remote start (and monitor) your truck from anywhere. The app is not needed to remote start from the key fob. That being said, the key fob remote start may just be an added bonus for the premium package that does not appear to be advertised.

Ok, I gotta be honest I thought this would not work because I tried it before, but your post said "wait several seconds" after 3rd push and hold. I had held it for about 1.5 secondswhen 1st heard it might be possible . Well today I held it for like 3 full seconds and low and behold it remote started!! Thanks for the tip. Of course I excitedly opened the door and it died, but I expected that from the posts. Definitely a hidden feature didn't know I had with technology and premium package.
