TBH, I dont remember it being related to tire change. It did correlate with everyone else asking for more power though.

Reminded me of the 2015 lotus driven by Grosjean, and merc needed him to defend against a redbull... Merc engineers gave him extra power for something like 5 laps. He said the extra speed and torque allowed the aero to work better and that it was a whole new car. And when they turned off his extra party mode that it was depressing.. (so much for not being able to remotely change engine mapping)

Bottas deserved that win though, even better he slowed Hamilton so Norris could get 3rd

I don’t think anything came of it but didn’t Norris get fastest lap when yellow flags were out?

 

if Norris had already gone through section effected by yellow flags while it was green it wouldn't effect his lap

Russell nearly qualified into Q2 and was keeping pace with the Alfa’s and Haas during the race. So yes I think they are in a lot better of a place than last year. Russell was unlucky to not finish.

Williams needed a good finish to give them a bit of hope, they are going through rough times right now...

 

Agreed I like Russell I think he may get the Merc seat next year depending on how he & Bottas do

 

I wish Williams could offer him a long term contract but I know Toto wouldn’t allow that. Russell is “Williams” material he is a perfect fit...

 

I think he's better than Williams deserves. He should be in a winning car.

 

if I was Mercedes i would put Russell in that car unless Bottas is dominating. you just can't lose the opportunity with Russell. just an opinion but the guy looks like the future of F1 talent. as they age the new generation will lose some of their fresh but i see Russell growing past all of them. he's got time but at this point waiting is no longer justified.

I know... after all said and done he is a Mercedes development program driver being primed for the big seat. Exactly what happened with Bottas...

 

Except I don't think a Championship is in Bottas' future.

 

I don't know, Hamilton seems distant recently. If Bottas can get a a good early point advantage over Hamilton they will prioritize him.

Didn't Hamilton start slow last year while Bottas came out strong? I don't know but seem to recall that being the case. And if so, has that been Hamilton's MO going back a few years?
