Glad I read this. I watched the late night showing last night and turned it off halfway through because it was so boring. Read your post and turned it back on.

 

I would still take that spec over the current one, and I didn't like those as well as the v10's.

 

I think they thought there was no way Max could catch Lewis or lose his finish position, so they brought him in for tires to set the "fastest lap." Little did they know Lewis would lose his RF tire on the last lap.

 

It's hard to see in the future. Too bad you guys didn't tell Redbull both Mercs were going to fail.

I was just surprised once they boxed Max that Merc didn't box Hamilton to go for the fastest lap as well.

Where are you getting that Lewis' tires were already delaminating when Max pitted? The coverage I saw, only showed Botta's tires before Max pitted.

 

They mentioned Lewis tires were blistering the last quarter of the race. I think they mentioned them even before they mentioned Bottas’ tires.

 

Lewis said that that his tires looked perfect before the failure that they didn’t give any signs beforehand. Bottas on the other hand was complaining about his tires

 

Silverstone was the same race Perelli had the multiple failures a few years back as well isn't it?

 

Yeah it only gets worse as the cars go faster and faster. They were a whole 12 kmph faster in the curves compared to last year.

Plan was to move all 3 available compounds one level softer. Assumption was that it would change race strategy -- 2 pit stops needed instead of 1.

Everyone going on about Red Bull's decision to pit Max are missing a bigger item IMO -- Mercedes' decision to leave Lewis out. He could have easily ended up at a corner marshal's station with the steering wheel sitting on the halo. It was a bold call, and a brilliantly driven lap. He said he was full throttle on the straights! That's nerve.

Leclerc also had a fantastic weekend. Well done! Danny Ric and Lando too. Lots of good drives masked (!) by a mostly boring race and hugely exciting last couple of laps.

 

After yesterday, don't think anyone would risk just one pitstop with those tires...lol Heck, several teams may do three.

 

This is what I was saying. I completely understand pitting Max after VB got gashed. But Merc leaving the points leader out like that when they had a free stop?? They could have walked away with no points at all

 

True, but there's no guarantee he would have stayed in front of Max. He could have had a blow out heading into the pits and crashed. It was a gamble that has payed off before and they took the same chance and it payed off again. All credit to Lewis for bringing it home. A lesser driver would have spun or crashed out.
