I disagree. Less aero and downforce would allow for more passing due to the trailing car not being upset by turbulence from the lead car and more of this...

then you'll be the one watching it. i would love to be the driver in pure mechanical grip racing. but grand prix bigass cars and grand prix circuits? no. you need to find another formula with different circuits for that or it would be slow motion boredom.

Why doesn't McLaren have their own powerplant? I feel like they could make a better engine than the current Renault setup.

McLaren has never made their own engines, even for their street cars. Engine development is expensive and they're a pretty small company. They'd essentially be starting from ground zero.

I thought they did make their own engines for their current cars

@FN-2187 would not be the only one. Those of us at casa del 9mmMike would start watching again. Out current F1 "watching" is just reading the results. We watch the lower formulas where the actual racing is very good.

Their engines are supplied by a company called Ricardo in the UK. From what I can tell, the current V8 is based off a Nissan powerplant that they upgrade to the max. Still an awesome engine though.

"Currently all models in the Mclaren lineup use a 3.8 Twin Turbo DOHC 4 valves per cylinder v8 (engine code McLaren M838T).
The engine was at the start a nissan VRH motor (engine in the Nissan R390 GT1, Nissan R88C, Nissan R90CK, Nissan GTR super GT500, some indy cars...). This was then further developed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, from which Mclaren bought the rights. Mclaren then further worked with Ricardo engineering to further develop it into their current engine."

    Edited for more info:thumbsup:

i do watch these mech grip low/no aero races for sure myself. but only the onboards. the distance view sucks. the onboards are completely awesome. so, I'm half agreeing.

Kinda like how Lotus uses Toyota V6's. Just start with a good base powerplant and tune it to the max.

Didn't they just list their building that Zac was boasting about in Drive to Survive for sale?

that wasn't to finance an engine development project. read more about it, it was a response to future financial sustainability. so the billionaires don't go cash poor whatever that means exactly.
