That’s what I do, I got in the habit of just licking my finger and wiping the lens before getting in.

To keep it really fair, my 2011 was 32k and that old camera system with old technology looked HD compared to these new ones. There is nothing average about the cameras, they are sub par at best.

now it is what it is, and I’m willing to pay “more than” average prices to upgrade the system, per the post. But you justifying the lousy quality with the average car price is A bit silly

Its just your opinion, clearly most people don’t justify there purchase through the grade of a backup camera.

This is a clear case of someone not understanding the difference between quality and grade. The camera you have is actually high quality but is not the grade that you prefer.

Given all my years on this forum, this is the first complaint I have seen over the backup camera. I’m not sure what is more silly.

The backup camera on my 2017 is very clear with good colour rendition and no graininess whatsoever. Maybe they downgraded the video processor to accept the new multi-camera system? More low quality camera feeds rather than one good one.

The terrain camera was nothing but a gimmick anyways. I'm sure some Me-Len-Ell was on the focus group and thought this would be a rad idea

I wouldn’t mind a nose camera. Not that easy to see over that 3G shnozzle.

I wonder if its possible to disable one camera and have the quality for the remaining one improve.

I have a good point of comparison between the Tacoma, our fleet of various Fords, Isuzus, Mercedes at work, and my wife’s Camry. The Tacoma camera is definitely the best of the bunch. They might have put a better camera in mine because 2017.

To accept the feed from multiple cameras, they need to have some sort of multiplexer. Quality may suffer if they don’t get that right.

Yeah, more or less. If we know that Toyota is capable of building a decent camera, but it looks like crap on here, then I suspect that they didn't upgrade their video processor to handle the extra data - instead they just halved the resolution to show both at once.

Well sir, given All my years on this forum which is about 4 years Longer than you, I have never been given such A genuine compliment to my original thought process, sooo thank you?

And if your reading comprehension doesn’t surpass your level of helpful contribution to A thread, justifying the purchase of the entire vehicle was A sarcastic response to your initial uninformative reply.

    thank you for your service

I’m not sure if these cameras are digital. I thought I read they connect with an RCA jack, which indicates analogue video into the head unit, which then likely converts to digital. Analogue is much more taxing on cheap equipment as it requires quality parts to retain picture quality.

I may be wrong on this so feel free to correct me if I’m off base.

You could be right, an RCA jack definitely sounds analog, thats how all the ones on Amazon are (Although it could still be digital, but it sounds less likely) Since they're still converting it to digital at some point though, they still have a potential bottleneck, and the cheapest/easiest way to get two cameras without upgrading the hardware is just to change the resolution.

If they really are analog though, it would be pretty easy to grab another analog monitor and do some experimenting.

I recently added a Germes Lab camera controller and I installed a front camera made by Nikita. The quality of the front camera is sharp, crisp and clear. The stock rear view camera is grainy to say the least.
