I mean it's a backup camera that shows you things that are behind you. Only time mine has ever not been easy to see is after driving in snow/rain when the truck was dirty and then I have to wipe it off. Not sure what the expectations are here

Well, I am making a relative comparison to what is available versus what's on the 2020 Tacoma.
The Tacoma cameras do work, and they do show enough to get by. They are however very inferior in quality to other contemporary systems, and are not sufficient for precise maneuvering in some cases due to poor quality.
The moral of the story here is, I guess, that in comparison to other cameras, the Tacoma cameras are pretty crap, and do not always do a good enough job.
I will definitely be replacing them with better ones, as soon as some "plug & play" ones become available.

Fair enough. I'm sure there are better ones out there and if you can find one, then by all means replace it. I've already mentioned how this camera saved my ass in a situation where without it would have been much worse. It was more due to the wide angle of the camera and how well lit the back was.

Likewise. It's curious what people expect, I have a GFC with no windows, meaning my back window is completely blocked and I'm running a HC rear with a camera relocation. Despite having no rear view, rear mirror and relying only on the camera (which has meen completely moved) and side mirrors, I can still perform precise maneuvers whether its in a parking lot or on a trail.

Exactly. Could you argue there are better ones? Absolutely. But it has a job and does it just fine. I have a camper shell on so may as well take the rear mirror off. I do have a 4k UHD camera with smart features on order and should be installed in the next couple years

Having a Model 3 and a newly purchased Tacoma SR, I would have to say the camera is junk!

So the camera in your tech-infused Tesla with self driving capabilities and a screen larger than most tablets is better than a midsized truck with minimal features designed to be capable both on and offroad while being easy to maintain? Shocking.

@Jersey Devil does your "reverse" cam switch light up when you're in reverse? My cams aren't switching but the reverse does light up when I back up. Maybe my relay is bad.

Alright, figured it out. I'm assuming the ground wasn't good because that's all I changed besides taking it apart to double check everything. Works like a charm!

I just got my 2020 Tacoma TRD Offoraod and that was the first thing I noticed. The rear camera sucks compared to the 2018 JL Wrangler with 7” screen i traded in. That camera or screen was beautiful.

Why are people so upset and offended that he asked if he could upgrade his cameras? I don’t see why its necessary to act like someone just insulted your mother?

Frankly, you’re both right, the camera quality isn’t that good, but it’s also just a rear back up camera on a decently priced vehicle.

If they want to upgrade their cameras and you don’t have any suggestions, as well as you’re happy with how yours works, I don’t see why it’s important for you to be a part of this thread.

If you are over 55, you do not need a rear camera. Just throw it in reverse like all of us older people and let people start dodging your truck as you back up.

I'm gonna say I love the panoramic view, its one of the reasons I went with the upgraded package. But that being said, if I could upgrade the video quality I would. Anybody find some solid info for us with the 360 camera setup yet?

Only beef i've got with the backup camera is when it rains and i load something in the bed having to drop the tailgate. When i put the tailgate back up, the camera lens must get moisture on it. You can't see clearly anymore till you dry it off.
