I think I've conceded that there is no "good" CB radio mount in my truck. If I end up in the woods more, I like the way you have yours set up, is it easy to take on/off? Would only want to have it up for trips. Antennas can stay.

I just leave mine up there. It's a ram mount. It's as easy as undoing the wing nut by hand. But with it being a ham radio I use it almost daily. I put my cb down by my leg. Too big to go up on the dash. Might have a mini cb that could fit up there.

What do you use it for daily? Just curious. Ima try out some two ways for this trip and see if they'll do the trick. If that's all I need then I'll just use those.

A bit of everything. The towers cover about 120 miles. Morning commute guys get on there to shoot the shit. Always live traffic and weather updates. A good amount of tech talk as well because it's an easy hobby to get hooked on. It's a good time. Meet a lot of folks.

I use the USGS topo app. The paid version let's you download maps for offline use.

Open GPX lets me download Open Topo free. I've used that for a while, I like it. Added wrinkle of carplay/android now though. Basically just a toy but could be cool to have that push to my satnav screen.

This is why I pay. Hears a few of my layers. You can see the trail with the pre-planned route on it. Surprise. It's not actually there.

With the right maps, you can solve a lot of problems. I'm sure most folks can see the progression here.

I also use shaded relief a ton because
    A) common sense says if the trail is claiming to go up a 200' rock face it's lying
    B) Gives you a much better idea of interesting trails when scouting. It's also visually quicker to scan than a regular topographical map

GPS apps are so 2019. Real Overlund hipster navigators use sextants. It's all about that celestial navigation life, brah. In 2019 you needed a Skottle, rtt, and drone to Overlund. In 2020 it's all about the sextant. Nothing's cooler than measuring the angular distance between the north star and horizon to determine where you are.

Plus you get like 1,250 social media points for showing off your badass blacked out tactical Overlund molle capable sextant with integrated craft beer can opener.

Actual footage of Rich and his truck.

We know this because the truck is empty and he's peeing on the only tree in the desert.
