We tried to go this route but it was difficult to do with a puppy.
Not only did we need to jump through many hoops there is no way to know if the puppy was with the mother for the time that it is supposed to be. There were other issues that came up as well...
I feel as though it's much easier to rescue a fully grown dog on account the rescue has much more info and it's easier to tell the temperament of the dog.
I also think that most rescue places need to just call your vet if you already have a history of owning dogs. This would make everyone's life so much easier.
And I really don't like someone telling me that I can't rough-house with my dog...
I've grew up with dogs and have had 1 my hole life, never had a problem with any of them and have always been well taken care of.
I'm not trying to downgrade rescues, I just think their practices need to change on the people that have owned dogs.
I do understand where they come from on new dog owners.

We were talking about this to but we knew our problem would have been keeping the dog no matter what.
We wanted the dog that suited our lifestyle.

my rescue is an unknown. They used the date she was spayed as her birthday. So she was ballpark 3 months at that point. The rescue said 6 months, paperwork said 3, and the vet said based on tooth growth about six. So it can still be a crapshoot. But knowing the temperament is important. We met our dog when she was in boarding since her foster was on vacation and she was playing with other dogs and having a blast. She’s great off leash etc etc.

We considered fostering a second dog to help keep her stimulated and exercised. But not sure we can handle two of her. She’s a hand full. It would be fine at home but I usually take her to run off leash in the woods. Two dogs can be difficult for one person there. I take her to beach off leash. Again two dogs difficult. Dog park, doable but difficult. I wouldn’t even think about running two dogs on my bike, like I do with my dog now. So that’s not even work considering.

we’re still a maybe on the whole thing but after thinking about it, it’s a lesser chance.

and fostering is rough for first timers and dog people who want the dog to be theirs.

what kind of dog did you rescue?

Haven't had the pleasure yet of rescuing a dog yet.
We really wanted to and were trying to for the past 4 months but could never find the right opportunity to work for us.
We felt a little guilty about it but again we need everything fit our lifestyle.
Not what the rescue has in mind for what our lifestyle should be.

I’m ok if it’s a young dog, puppy part is important to wife and kids more than me. Wife showed me some puppies in Pennsylvania and Ohio. I got time for a few day road trip, so maybe. It’s an internal struggle I have supporting breeders, or saving a dog from a shelter.

My mom adopted a female GSD from a foster. She was wonderful. My mother's always been a dog person, took the day off work and stayed home with her. She relaxed, she was peaceful, etc. Mom's husband came home later - she lost it and bit either him or his son, can't remember which. This dog had severe issues with men. Me and wife met her, she was fine with the wife, wanted to take me out. The foster family was a married couple and she was fine with them, but something about the adoption set her off. Unfortunately, she had to be put down considering her disposition toward people. The foster and vet agreed after seeing her changed too.

So my mom adopted a lab puppy form a breeder the next go around, and it was not an impulse thing either. So it has it's ups and downs and even knowing how a dog is in foster doesn't always mean they'll be that way when they go through a dramatic change. I rescued a 6 month old cattle dog, so we had a better scenario, but still.

Dog rescue people are fucking insane. It's easier to adopt a kid than rescue a dog, which is why we ended up getting ours from breeders.

I don't see why not. We'll either be done with the COVID lock downs by then, or the trip will have a Mad Max theme in the waistland.

Either way should be a good trip.

The first go around was a PITA with the RISPCA. Our second attempt with a different rescue just did a home video chat overview and made sure we were on the up and up and that was that.

As long as the woods are open. :p As stated I can be a game time decision as needed for me it's boogy up I'll probably still be in OOB thursday night, either come back to home Saturday or Sunday or take to the woods for a few days. Dog will be happy either way.

We filled out an app yesterday, asking questions such as do you have a will, what’s the plan if you die. How many hoops do you need to jump through to help out an animal who needs a home. But yet, I can shell out 750-1500 bucks and no questions asked. But yet rescue dogs are still getting you for 500 plus.

But anyways, when it’s supposed to be.

Here is Murphy, 16month old 100 pound puppy.

Fact. We were almost removed from the list because we both had jobs and steady income.

Wife is lucky she is naming the dog this time.
If it were up to me I'd name him Covid.

I didn’t go looking for a cat. Disclaimer, I’ve had cats probably 20 plus lbs.

Wife works from home or in/out enough that they said yes for us. She likes her crate too.
