No, I'm pretty sure the information came from Toyota and it definitely wasn't just one reviewer. It's not about hoping for a "miracle cure." I'm not saying the update made a difference or didn't make a difference, I wouldn't know because I haven't compared them personally, as I only test drove the 2020. All I'm saying is that Toyota definitely claims to have updated the mapping and some reviewers have reported on it. I guess it's up to 2020 Tacoma owners to decide if they detect an improvement. I will be joining that group when my TRD Offroad arrives in few months, so I will add my opinion to the discussion after some time behind the wheel.

If you have the right expectations, you are going to love your new truck. They are awesome vehicles. Toyota knocked others right outta the park with the 3G Taco. Their popularity is well deserved.

I don’t believe you as you don’t list MT is your profile info. That’s a red flag.

A vegan, a crossfitter, and an owner of a m/t Tacoma walk into a bar, who talks first?? Lol

I have two complaints about the m/t:
    1. Reverse is almost useless when towing
    2. Radar sensing cruise control and m/t do not mix well. In 6th can slow you to almost a stall

Just coming from a Tundra I have no complaints on my 2020 . The only thing I’ve noticed is at highway speed if it’s trying to keep speed going uphill it slips the converter a little bit to maintain. The tundra did this also. Amazingly they turn almost identical rpm at speed . No hunting for gears .

Funny you mention the reverse gear...I have a second gen and I think the reverse gear is a little too tall....I might be able to hit 50 mph in reverse ( might be exaggerating though)... ;)

    Mine is an AT though.

Well, I changed my order to a manual LOL. I've been driving manuals for decades and, even though I wanted my TRD Offroad with a 6ft bed, I don't want to chance hating the automatic and regretting my decision, so I sacrificed the long bed for the manual. All in all, I think I'll be happier with the manual and I can still fit a camper in a 5ft bed. Honestly, I was concerned about the weight of a larger camper anyway.

UPDATE: I wound up cancelling my order and buying an DCLB OR auto off the lot because it was a much better deal. Unfortunately, I HATE the automatic in this truck. It's every bit as bad as all the haters have been saying it is. I absolutely regret canceling my manual order, despite the fact that I would have had to sacrifice the long bed.

To anyone who's on the fence, order a manual ...or at least make sure you thoroughly test drive the automatic before buying because they don't all shift the same, based on my experience.

Test drove an 18, a 19, and a few months later a 19 with totally different mapping by Toyota. Bought the 20 and couldn’t be happier.

Also had my previous Colorado mapping updated by Chevy.

It’s all in the computer and the user. They’re definitely not sports cars by any stretch of the imagination. I find I prefer to downshift my AT manually and use engine braking on certain steep hills. Haven’t found much problems with overdrive and highway speeds- the cruise downshifts when it needs to. Keeps the mpg high.

Our trucks are like Glocks. Including the first long squeeze. For that 1911 feel, I’ll add something fun (and fast) to my garage as soon as my wife recovers from me spending money on this truck.

I have the 19 with no transmission problems just slow response on the gas pedal. Though I do get around 19 MPG running around town so can't complain.

I have a question for any 2020 owners here. I have a 2019 TRD OR and every time I put on cruise on the interstate at 65-70mph the revs hover around 2000rpm (6th gear) but jumps up to 2500-3500rpm (5th or 4th gear) for even the slightest incline in the road. However, I can hold the revs at 2000rpm if I take it off cruise control. Is this something that you experience too in a 2020?

I am not sure if this behavior is due to the AT shift points or how these trucks are geared or both but its kind of annoying.

5400 miles on my 2020 OR and it is great. It is a much improved and refined driving experience when compared to me 2018 OR.

I have a 2020 with 1500 miles on it. Recently took it on a trip and twice during the trip it seemed to have got stuck in 4th gear while running cruise control at 72 mph. I let it go for about 10 min before I manually changed to 5th gear myself. Is this normal? I took it back to the dealer, there weren’t any codes on the computer. Anyone else have this problem? I’ve owned a 17 TRD sport and it had so of the same issues till I had the tsb done.
