Entune 3.0 w/ Carplay no Dynamic Nav yet,
Does anyone know if the 2020 JBL entune 3.0 will work with the 2016 JBL equipped truck? I was able to create a harness metra parts, and I was able to get a 2018 Sienna entune 3.0 w/ Carplay to power on in the dash. The only issue I now have is that I cannot hear anything nor can I move the volume up or down. Any ideas?

Does anyone know where I can get the 10 pin and 12 pin connectors at the amplifier, so that I can make my own 'plug and play' harness? I want to run the high level outputs into my D-6.1200, then back into the factory harness to connect back the the speakers in the dash and doors. I have a separate amp running my sub. I can cut and splice, but would rather build a harness for some reason. Thanks.

Maybe try contacting idatalink and see if the ato3 harness will work or has the connectors you are looking for. I upgraded my 2019 jbl system using that harness with the maestro ar. Im not sure why it doesnt work for the 2020 tacoma but does for the tundra. Looking at the pictures the 2020 harnesses look like they match mine. Probably wouldnt hurt to contact them and see why those harnesses dont work for the 2020s. They have good customer service.

YES! This is clutch, thank you. Just to clarify - the middle black and top white connectors are routing directly the speakers correct? So if I were to splice on to the correct wire I've got a straight path to each corresponding speaker, right? (I think I know the answer, but just double checking)

Also... I'm using all new head unit, and all new amps (and speakers for that matter). So can the JBL "amp" be completely abandoned without losing some other functionality? That is to say... is it all audio related on those three connectors? Or is there something random like interior lights or something odd?

Thanks a ton for your post. I think I found it also at diymobileaudio.com which must have been you as well. So clutch for me. Cheers.

I completely abandoned the amp and still have everything I need. So... it's fine. Just follow the wiring diagram alluded to in this post.

I know this is an old post but I’m trying to understand how using a plug and play unit like Trail Grid Pro offers works when installing a new head unit into the jbl system if the jbl system only has a 2 channel input. How would the crossover, balance/fader etc work if that’s true? It would have to have separate inputs not just 2 for those functions to operate. If the jbl amp separates all the speakers out using only a 2 channel input then anything you plug into it upstream would lose the functionality Im talking about. Is this right?

the data path issue with the JBL really stumped me for a long time as i was trying to understand what components were necessary to do a DIY upgrade. i could never really get anyone to diagram it or otherwise explain it in a way that made sense. but what i've gathered over time is that it's a mistake to see the head unit and amp as discrete boxes with a one-way data or signal flow. that's why you can't just take the output of the head unit and discard the amp.

I spoke with trail grid pro today. They are currently testing a JBL amp bypass that is a plug and play harness. As for my original question, even as it currently stands they have plug and play units that can go through the jbl amp and the crossover built into the new head unit will work as it should so they tell me. There can’t be just a single right and left audio input into the jbl amp. Regardless, it won’t really matter to me because once they roll out the jbl amp bypass I will do that and change out all my speakers and add an amp. This will allow me to utilize all the current wiring installed from the factory. I’ll be buying the Sony xav 9500es from them after the holiday. Cheers.

yes there can. but you're still thinking analogue audio. the jbl system is entirely digital/coaxial input. i understand it to be a proprietary coaxial format to toyota/jbl that doesn't comply with standard coaxial audio standards. meaning that it gets a digitally-encoded left and right audio signal(because the source material here is only a single left and a single right channel), as well as digitally-encoded front/rear/left/right amplitude information, and digitally-encoded head unit eq information.

the amp deciphers this digital information, divides the incoming signal up per it's active crossover plan, with doubles for front/rear audio partitioning, and then sends it out to the individual amplifier chips which then amplify the signal, and send it out to the individual speakers.

Thanks. Appreciate you explaining it further. Ditching the whole system piece by piece. Strange to me that Toyota would out such a crap system in it with the idea that it’s supposed to be “premium.” The entune I had in my 19 was better than the jbl or at least I didn’t feel as frustrated by it.

I bought a plug and play head unit from Trail Grid, Sony Xav 7000. It was simple to install and works well with the stock system. I have since upgraded the speakers with the kicker bundle from Trail Grid. It was also simple to install a has performed well. I also spoke to trail grid about amp and sub kit but wasn’t given a time line for when it would be available. I found a kicker sub and amp in the scratch and dent pile at Crutchfield for under $250 and I am in the process of installing them now. I didn’t get a box just put sub in the enclosure where the stock sub was. It was not a perfect fit, had to drill some holes but so far so good.

Hi. Do you or anyone else know the type of harness terminal or t-harness kit for the JBL Amp? I'm looking forward on installing an Audio Control D series amp, but I want to retain the factory head unit. I want to hijack the audio signals as speaker level and input directly to the Audio Control D series Amp, but without splicing the factory harness and without using RCA converters of any kind. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You might want to reach out to https://www.autoharnesshouse.com/ They had harness for the speaker wires going to the speakers and maybe they can build you one for the speaker input plug.
