Something this truck is doing now at 176000 miles, left turn signal is intermittently giving me a rapid or "hyper" flash as it would if a bulb were burnt. Every single thread I can find referring to this only talk about having replaced bulbs with LED's and needing resistors, etc. I had not altered my lights or replaced any bulbs as everything up front is already LED from factory. Trying to troubleshoot this week I replaced the turn bulb in the left side tail and that didn't fix it. I'm thinking now that it is the headlight, which will be expensive ($1400 from Toyota) as it is an enclosed LED unit that doesn't use bulbs apparently. So if THAT ends up being the issue there's no way I'm buying another one from Toyota (if a new/stock one only lasts 5 years?) when I can buy a pair of Morimotos for nearly the same money. I can remember buying a new headlight for my first car ('77 Olds Cutlass) only cost $12 and even adjusted for inflation was far cheaper than $1400 for a single friggin' headlight today.
So, with all that in context do any of you have experience with this? Thanks for any helpful advice in advance.

I'll have to pay closer attention but I believe it is, I think it hyper-flashes with the rest of it. I have parked the truck and got out to look at the front and the headlight turn lamp (the one that sequentially chases) isn't doing anything (only when it is acting up) which is what is leading me to think the issue is in that headlight. I'll try to remember to verify the mirror light next time it does it. I can drive all day and it won't do it, then hop in to run errands and it acts up the entire time I'm out, so I don't get what type of gremlin this is.

The turn light is in the headlight but it is a bulb that is replaceable. Replace it with a fresh new one or if your not capable a lot of auto supply stores (not a dealer) will replace free it if you buy a new one from them. Or go to a reputable local repair shop. You don't need to replace the whole headlight assembly to replace a faulty/burnt out bulb !! Headlight low and high beams are also a replaceable bulb.

Check the bulb socket for burned or melted contacts

This truck trim level does not use bulbs in the headlamp, it is a sealed LED only unit. Literally the only plug is the power plug on the back of the housing. Believe me, I have looked at it over a dozen times and have verified with the dealership. There are NO BULBS in this headlamp, hence my dilemma. I should add that if you Google it, Google's AI is convinced there's bulbs too, so there's apparently not going to be a lot of online help for this.

Is there a regular bulb back at the taillight housing?

Yes, THAT one is the only bulb in that chain evidently, and I replaced it 2 days ago with my fingers crossed (since the old bulb and socket look fine). Unfortunately, still having the issue intermittently. I guess my next cheapest option would be to just replace the led unit in the side mirror as well and hope maybe that's where the problem is.

Definitely the issue is you need a new LED headlamp assembly for the affected side, left in this case. Unless it's an unlikely wiring issue or something.

Are the connectors the same for both headlights? Try moving the whole housing over to the other side and see if the problem follows

That's sorta what I'm tilting towards, just looking for some consensus before spending any money. Thanks for the info.

It could also be a wiring issue or something like that but it's unlikely. Swapping the headlights across sides is one option or checking the connector with a meter for blinking signal on the turn signal wire is another option. Swapping headlights is kind of a pain since only the one side is bad, so you're doing extra disassembly work for diagnosis.

Don't know, but I would assume probly they are. Without removing the whole front end to remove the headlights, I can't test that theory tho.

Right, I like the multimeter idea tho, it should present there at least in a way to quantify what's happening.

Gonna have to pull the bumper any way to replace the headlight, might as well check before ordering a new one

I would have already but it's my daily driver and didn't want to have to go that far just yet unless I had replacements to justify the effort (but I may have to now). Luckily (maybe) it's an aftermarket bumper and should be a bit easier to access than stock.

If the mirror is blinking and the headlight isn't or is intermittent, you are almost guaranteed it is the logic in the headlight. Unless you feel like buying one from a salvaged yard that is broke and taking the internals out, you are stuck getting a new or used headlight assembly.

That sounds right. I'll be driving around today some, and will check that side mirror marker for sure. Thanks for the info.
