    Love flying actually!

So my wife (at the time) and I had a Siberian Husky while I was still in the military. We absolutely spoiled her the way you'd spoil your own kids etc.

Anyway it was coming close to either re-enlisting or ending my active service; I chose to EAS.

Well my wife moved to Chicago a good 4 months before I was ready to get out? That way it'd be an easier transition from CA to IL rather than go all at once and figure shit out; her and I have family out there anyway so it was easy.

I didn't have a job lined up just yet so we were getting an apartment that'd be conveniently located, since she was going to go to DePaul University, and in the good side of town.

Bad news? Every damn place she'd check with wouldn't allow Husky's because it was either NO DOGS, or NO BIG DOGS, or BIG DOGS ALLOWED but not these specific breeds and Shadow (our Husky) was on the list.

Push come to shove, I finally found her a good home, which was a family (husband also in the military) that my bestfriend knew well. She didn't just go right to them, I would bring her over to them and the family would spend more and more time with her until she got used to them.

Well, I EAS and head out to Chicago, but not without the new family's contact information.

After a few weeks, I'd send a text or an email, asking about Shadow and would normally get a text or email back with a picture and some words.

It wasn't until 4-5 months in that the family suddenly blew me off. I get it, I didn't rehome a kid or something but it was kind of odd. I tried to reach out a week later, and same thing. So I had my wife also reach out and it wasn't until another 2 weeks later that we finally heard from them; it was via phone and the conversation was very short, they surrendered her.

My wife and I were pissed/upset. We asked where was she left or to whom did they surrender our dog to and they said "to the only pound in 29 palms".

That conversation took place close to or on the weekend; I remember because we looked up the shelter and found it online right away. Not only that, we found Shadow, pending adoption!

We called and left a voicemail, only to call again the next day, and the day after that. Their hours sucked too because where other places were open, they were closed. We finally got ahold of someone days later, and told the shelter a lie that went like this -

"The Johnson family had done us favor by providing Shadow, our husky, a temporary home, while we got situated in our new home in IL. This was meant to be a temporary solution of course, until we could figure out a way to get her back home with us"

The shelter told us that didn't matter. Apparently, Shadow had escaped their residency some 1-2 months back, and that same family went to pick her up from the shelter. This is when we learned about the stupid 3 week rule; seeing as how the Johnson's had picked up Shadow from the shelter, up to the day they surrendered her, they had her in their possession for approximately 12 or so weeks making them the legal owners. :annoyed:

To add insult to injury, Shadow already had a family ready to adopt her, and she was scheduled to be fixed prior to getting picked up. I told the staff to explain the situation to the new-to-be family and let them decide if they'd still want to adopt her or not, or talk things out.

Well, they weren't having it. I explained that I wasn't asking for their information, but instead I was offering my own! I offered my wife and I as a point of contact, to contact us at any time of the day, and that it'd be in the dogs best interest to come back to us! This went on for another 2-3 days....

We finally got the call a few days later - "You have 72 hours to pick up Shadow"

Don't ask how I did it, but as a newly sworn in sheriff with Cook County, I got a few days off and my wife and I drove all the way to IL, to pick up Shadow.

Holy shit, that IS a story. Glad you got her back. I love huskies, but it’s just too hot for them in Sacramento.

We recently had a failed attempt at replacing our doofy Aussie who had lived a long and happy life. Found a sweet pit mix at the shelter, that turned out to hate everyone but me, and had the opposite effect on my wife’s anxiety than we had hoped. Oops.

Yeah; I lived in So Cal when we had our Husky but fortunately I lived alongside the coast so it never got too hot.

However, in Chicago, that bitch loved the snow

    SNV12600.jpg

My wife and I later separated and she kept Shadow since after all, I got her as a gift to my wife as a bday present.

If I recall correctly, you never confirmed your attendance

This trip has a bunch of people with rusty rope hooks, you wouldn’t like it.

    It’d just be weird.

His OCD would be beyond control...I'd hate to have my RTT shaken up to find @GQ7227 replacing my rope hooks in the middle of the night.

BTW @GQ7227 I added you to the list
