In data analytics they call that separating the signal from the noise. I get it. This is an enthusiast Web site -- and a great one at that. But this is not reflective of Toyota -- or the Tacoma overall. For example, look at this:

Top 5 Cars Kept Over 15 Years Come From Just One Company

Loyalty is something car companies want to instill in their patrons, especially if these customers keep their vehicles for years. It shows the durability and reliability of the cars, which reflects their build quality. Whether this reflects positively in terms of sales, that's another discussion for another time.

In this regard, it seems like Toyota owners are the most loyal to the cars they bought, keeping them under their ownership for over 15 years. That's the latest findings of an iSeeCars.com study, which analyzed over 660,000 cars from the 1981-2005 model years sold in 2020 to see which cars owners are most likely to keep for at least 15 years.

According to the study, seven out of 10 cars that are likely kept by the owner for over 15 years are from the same automaker, with an overall average is 6.1 percent. The Toyota Prius is kept 2.2 times more than the average vehicle, with 13.7 percent of 15-year-old examples still kept by their original owners.

The Highlander follows the hybrid with 12.4 percent of the old ones still with the first buyer – twice as much as the average vehicle. The Tacoma, Sienna, and Tundra sit below the SUV, lurking within the 11-percent mark.

    Actually, no.

To "plagiarize" would be to take someone else's work or ideas and pass them off as my own. Clearly, by linking to the source, I had no interest or intent to do so. FYI, I put the text of the article here so people would not have to click on the link to read the story. I also gave them the actual source.

For those that are interested, I think there is a longer article on Forbes but for some reason I am locked out of my account there and can't seem to get access.

    Carry on ...

He didn’t plagiarize. He explicitly referenced the article and cited it by supplying the link to the article.

It looks like you’re the one with feelings involved. I simply clarified your accusation of plagiarism as baseless and unfounded.

Lol . I don't not wish to continue this dispute. I saw the link he posted with his comments. That does not mean he didn't directly plagiarize. I understand it is your thread so I will unwatch it.

Be interesting what these ranger owners think after a few years with 75k miles with these ecoboost engines....especially if they haven't taken out any maintenance contracts.

Surprisingly, theres around 8 Tacos in my small neighborhood.

My girlfriend works at a Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership and the Gladiator has eaten into their Wrangler sales quite a bit (they are a very small dealership). It makes sense, the Gladiator and Wrangler aren't all that different and many of their customers can't afford two cars but want a Jeep.

I was one of the unfortunate 1st year 3.5L Ecoboost F-150 owners. It developed a stretched timing chain that would sound like a sawzall at start-up but the dealer kept insisting it was normal (lol). Paid out of pocket for the repair, the dealership charged me for the repair but the issue continued. Surprisingly, less than a 1,000 miles later it was a blown turbo that caused a hole to appear in my block. Ford actually covered half the cost of the new engine, but having so many engine issues under 80K miles was upsetting. What really upset me about the engine replacement is that they charged me for a long-block but reused EVERYTHING from the old motor (heck, the thermostat they reused was torn and missing half its gasket). The Ecoboost is a nice engine with lots of power, but I wouldn't buy one again. I did all of the scheduled maintenance plus oil changes every 3,500 miles but it made no difference in the end.

he obviously doesn't understand what the word means and would rather make stupid comments with each quote.

Here the Denver Metro Area I see at least twice as many Tacos than all of the others combined. If I go to The Home Depot there are 4-5 Tacos in the parking lot.

Ha. Clearly. And, what a strange hill to die on, so to speak. But best to move on. There is really no sense -- or value -- in engaging.

But moving on. I did manage to find the study that article referenced. Really interesting. Look at the section titled: "Light-Duty Pickup Trucks Owners Keep for 15 Years or Longer."

Look at this: "The top two trucks, the first-ranked Toyota Tacoma and the second-ranked Toyota Tundra, also appear on the overall list of the longest-kept vehicles." And then look at this: "Two additional Japanese trucks, the third-ranked Nissan Frontier and the sixth-ranked Nissan Titan are also above the segment average for trucks owned for 15 years or more."

To the point of the original post about market share, I can't help but feel if Nissan got their act together (a big if, I know), made a commitment to the Frontier and the Titan, re-designed those vehicles and went after it, there is really no reason they couldn't be number two in the market. No, they are not going to compete with the Tacoma ... but they could easily surpass the rest of those vehicles. My only point is that while the Tacoma is king (without question) Nissan has a lot to build on.

It's funny you say that. I get why certain people buy Toyotas or Ford/Dodge/GMC-Chevy. They all seem to have their niche be it towing or work trucks or offroad capability. I don't feel the same way about Nissan. I don't know what market they are focused on. They just seem to be there hanging out waiting for someone to start a conversation. lol

One of my neighbors owned a late model f-150 with the ecoboost engine...loved it till he got a bill of over $2k to replace the turbos. Now drives a silverado.
