They gave me hate mail because I said formula E is trash and that if nascar did away with the signature roar it would die.... but yet F1 hasn't recovered from the V6hybrid....

I don't want to pull the age or experience cards because I'm not that old, but (i'm generalizing here) most of r/NASCAR are under 35 and even under 25 and do not have the scope of the sport that other, longtime fans have. Heck, a bunch of them want to see Atlanta reconfigured to the old oval because they think Old NASCAR was obviously better. Man, save for 1992, those old AMS races wore totally boring, and those two races were not particularly exciting.
March: Bill Elliott was a non-contender all day, a lap down, and only won because of a fluke caution late in the race.
November: King's last race, he wrecks and goes out in a fireball. Crazy wreck takes out half the championship contenders. Bill runs away with the win but Kulwicki wins the Cup.
I get downvoted when I quote word for word what drivers have said to me. It's near-cultish over there. If you're not on the bus, look out.

Yeah I'll be 25 on January 6th and I started watching in 2013, but It never takes me long to research... and the things nascar fixed are what made nascar broken where it wasn't broken before. I also got downvoted because I had proof of what a V6 nascar would sound like with modern engines... (who would know better than me, my taco had headers a ypipe and no muffler out of the side before the rear axle). I am thankful TW doesn't censor us and let's us put up this thread every year.

I'm 34... but I was raised from the old guard. My dad rooted for the Allison's from the days they both started their career... I went to races in the 90s when it was still all about the race and the drivers genuinely gave a damn...

I have seen the sport become a shell of what it once was... by trying to adjust to a generation that has no want or need for what they offer... and turning away the traditionalists in the process.

I stay because my love for the sport... they just continue to make it harder each passing season. The next-generation car will be the tipping point for whether I stay or go. I'm hanging by a thread...

Nascar wants to be generic OEM driven, but really only 2 OEMs give a shit and I don't see a 4th joining really making a difference.... late models pretty much have the same body with just a sticker and they put on a better show all the time

I miss our local dirt track... the last owner was using it as a drug money laundering operation... then got busted... and it never reopened.

I'm hoping our local asphalt tracks reopen. Me and @MadDaddy have 2 near us, and both have expressed interest in reopening, which makes me wonder if he has any inside info on how Lanier did when we were there last, as far as is it enough to reopen

We honestly don't have many local tracks up and running. Senoia is a dirt track only 1 hour from the house from me. The rest are shut down.... but we have anderson , SC (2 hrs away), watermelon speedway (3.5hrs), Dixie speedway (1.5-2 hrs), rome speedway (2.5hrs), and hickory, NC is (4hrs). But Gresham if they open is only an hour and lanier is 45 mins.

I think Toccoa is closed again. Hartwell is running, Lavonia is back up running, Senoia and Dixie are going strong. There are some happening tracks down towards Brunswick. Tri-County is running just over the state line in NC. Needmore is hopping down in SW GA. Dirt is doing fine here in Georgia but asphalt has been struggling since the economy tanked a decade ago. It got too pricey to run and more pricey to compete. A lot of those guys were old school and either quit or converted their cars to dirt.
Karting, both asphalt and dirt are doing fine in little pockets here. I didn’t even know there was quarter midget racing until I went to Lanier last month. I’m hopeful Lanier will do more late models and excited that Gresham is going to do a race next year.

I don’t know who’s running Lanier but I can look into it. I have a buddy who knows the Gresham and Lavonia promoters and can check with him.

Some folks are saying Atlanta will lose its date after 2020. I find this hard to believe, given ATL is such an entertainment draw and one of the largest markets in the Southeast. Attendance has lagged for years since they started moving the dates around. They always seemed to put it on the same day as other local and regional sports draws, going head to head with Ga-Fl weekend among other big dates. The president is retiring after next year's race. There are rumors of a huge revitalization similar to Phoenix (ISM), converting the track to its old configuration, which I think is a HUGE mistake, and redeveloping the entire property, adding karting, casinos, fairgrounds, etc. Atlanta has been on the Cup schedule since the mid-60s and people would be up in arms at the possibility of losing the race, but people just aren't coming out on race day. This is the case at most tracks so it would be difficult to throw Atlanta under the bus for the same problems afflicting most other tracks. Then again, new-NASCAR has a history of doing the opposite of the right thing.
All this to say, if you're in the area, please make it out to the track next March. It's a whale of a deal compared to other regional Cup tracks. $180 gets you good reserved seats all weekend, pit road pass, and scanner & gear for the weekend.

I hope they ditch the casinos... georgia has too many people as-is. And yeah with the president resigning, have they named a new one? My fear is there will be no new one be cause there will be no race
