Something confusing in the owner's manual is sometimes it has a Type A and a Type B of something. Or it'll say "2TR-FE" engine and then there's a "2GR-FKS" engine, whatever that means.

So, what is this all about? Which one comes on what truck and why? Is it something for different countries? Or is it different trims?

And I don't like how the manual doesn't tell you the different trims. Like it never just says, oh, this is on the SR5, or that is only on the TRDs. Why can't the manual just name the trims to better explain stuff?

Stock AF. My 68 Bronco and 2000 2.5RS get the mods.
Google each one and see. I vote it's the 4 and the 6 cyl. You get to do that though, its beer:30 on a friday. Cheers, brodda!

Edit: ok, a more real answer about the trims, you can mix and match a ton of features on everything except a TRD Pro. The range of options between an ordered bare-bones-af trd Offroad and a loaded out one is a good example. Stripped bare access cab and a 4 door with advanced tech are very different creatures and they aren't going to nitpick in the manual. There's a breakdown on Toyota's site of what you can and can't have, what's standard and optional for each model. It's as confusing as you think it would be.

Edit 2: felt like I was a dick, so the 2TR is the 2.7 4cyl, 2GR is the 3.5 6 cyl. (No, I didn't know, I'm not on that level with Toyota yet, I Googled it.)

Download the app “Toyota Owners”. Put in your vin and you’ll see everything about your truck including options you have, recalls, maintenance history, etc

I can see where you’re coming from. I’ve referred to the manual numerous times and have never understood why we don’t get a manual specific to the trim we purchased. Why get a generic manual when there’s so many variations of the truck.

Type A and Type B is just a reference to what ever item they are currently talking about in the manual.

In stead of saying "if it looks like this" or "looks like that"......
Take for instance the keys. It's easier to label them a letter, than to keep showing a picture, over and over again.

They do this with many different things.
It has nothing to do with "options". It's just a reference.
