I am a long, long ways from being a kid.. but will take the compliment anyways.

I would not even consider a Tacoma till 2020 due to its awful lack of Carplay/Android auto, power seats, or any kind of safety features does not cut it anymore in my book. However, with that said, I am a technophile and I DO in fact look for gadgets and technology in vehicles I purchase.

I do not think the Tacoma is over priced in today's market either: F150 XLT 302A package (same as fully loaded OR) is $50K MSRP. Frontier 4Pro $38K (and like a decade old), Ranger FX4 $45K, Colorado Z71 $45K... Seems the Tacoma fits right in with the rest of the pack.

I said "MT OR 4x2" trying to account for the $2k shy of what a loaded AT TRD OR 4WD would cost MSRP wise, either of those would account for the difference (there are 4x2 ORs believe it or not). Makes sense and yep, good deal, paid about the same for my 19 Cement OR Tech/Prem/4WD AT in AZ last Dec, $36.5k after $500 military rebate.

Nah, it makes sense since his is a MT, before the 2020's, if you had the tech package AND premium packages it was pretty much loaded, at that point its just accessories like tonneau, exhaust, running boards, etc. Now you can add all the extra packages like LED , advanced tech, etc. to call it "loaded" ontop of the premium and tech packages from before.

Have you seen the new Sonata? It can unpark itself when someone parks their chevy truck with too wide a wheels too close for you to get inside.

Except, no one pays even close to MSRP for an F150, Ranger or Colorado and discount is usually much higher than Toyota/Tacoma, so it comes damn near close especially F150, Ram and Silverado, you can get similar specked full size for a thousand or two to that of what you'd get a Tacoma for, now would you want to? most of us here would probably say no. Cousin just bought his 2019 F150 Sport with all the bells and whistles for $39k with a $51k MSRP. Guys at work are picking up Ram Bighorns all murdered out for a similar and they have heated steering wheels da*n it!

You also do not get anywhere near the resell value out of those trucks, point was, and still is, that MSRP is the same across the board. If Toyota started to discount the Tacoma like it those others do theirs then the value of a used Tacoma would drop, that is just extremely simple economics. Why pay hi for used when you can pay lower for new? That is the issue those other mfg's have, if you are unfortunate enough to pay full price for a F150 then you are doubly screwed when you go to sell/trade it as the blue book used price is horrible on those things compared to what MSRP states.

Tacoma blue book value is high as Toyota does not play that game.. you get like $1500 off at most via the MFG.. all other price discounts is what the dealer is willing to give you.

For comparison my F150 had an MSRP of $56K but I got $15K off of it when I went to buy it and the dealer did not even bat an eye giving me that much off. That devastated my resale value of it when I traded it for the Tacoma (because getting $15k off a F150 is normal, every other week they have them on sale and KBB knows it)

I haven't seen one myself yet. That's what Hyundai shows in their commercial, seems like a solution to a not so common problem.

I think there's a lot of variables that dictate price. Location, inventory, time of year, trim, used stock, heck even color. I got a used 2018 DCSB OR, 12K miles on the odometer, with the tech package for $32K a few months ago. Could I have found a better deal? Eventually. But it was the only cement one in the trim I wanted in the entire state. I don't regret it one bit.

Well aware, have owned and bought a few of these trucks and made a terrible mistake with a new Silverado in 2014 for a brief 4 months.

Supply and demand is a huge point.. since Toyota had to build a new plant just to keep up with the Tacoma production an demand there is extremely little incentive for any discounts. They will sell them, period... if not to you then to the next person. The last number I read (albeit a year old) was that the year over year increase was over 23% and the plant they made Tacoma/Tundras in was designed for 200K trucks per year and they were maxing it out at 260K trucks.

Yep! Bought in a few regions, some are easier to get invoice or just below, some no way in hell. Some regions Sports were more popular than ORs and much to my surprise here in Chicagoland no one cares for Cement, black seems to be the most popular color weirdly enough, dealer was struggling to offload 2 cements when I snagged mine, same config and all.

Driven by the migration of IG "overlanders", former BMW, WRX and GTI owners who have no need to own or drive a truck but want a Tacoma because of the name associated with it. Eh, has kept my resale high and have enjoyed driving these trucks since high school, will be interesting to see how resale is in 6-7 years when people move to the next trend and the market is saturated.

True, my 2000 from High School was a tank, wish I had kept it. All of them have been great trucks, each with their quirks, but keep coming back.

I just went through this dilemma recently.

    2020 OR DCSB - $42 OTD. $37 MSRP.
    2019 TRD Pro $45 OTD. $48 MSRP. (2019 Rebates)

I went with the Pro. I felt that I got a decent deal. Although, still feels expensive since it's missing a ton of bells and whistles other manufactures offer.

Considering the minimal price difference, I would have had the same dilemma. I also would have gone with the pro though! I do firmly believe the Tacoma is the most off road capable mid-size truck off the lot. The other companies have to throw in the extra bells and whistles to compete, but I don't believe they can match the Tacoma's capabilities.
