I checked the other thread and my VIN was included on the TBS. 2020 built in January. Going to ask about this during my next scheduled service. This was my first automatic vehicle, and overall I don't notice anything odd about the shifting except a throttle hesitation when trying to accelerate going down a hill from a low speed/coasting. On the highway and around town it seems to shift fine and I don't notice any excessive hunting for gears.

My OR built Feb 2020 already came with the update and yeah, I was not experiencing all the issues others were from the get go. You flip on ECT and it's even better!

Edit: In terms of code readers, the AP200 (or HT200 - same thing) is pretty decent for the price and capabilities. Definitely not dealer level by a long shot but it does have some of those features like abs bleed, immobilizer, reading all ecus... etc. You get one brand unlock for free and there are no maintenance costs. App receives updates pretty frequently.

Anyone here who would be able to help me determine the TBS for my truck? Read through the other thread and it seems like I need to know my ECU ID? And if this is the case how would I go about determining that?

I recently checked to find my vin number on this tsb list. Found out this week it had already been done by my boston dealer before taking delivery. No wonder i can't find fault with the way this truck operates.

Can't say which OBDii readers have that info for sure but most likely any more modern one should have your ECU ids. Drop by Autozone or Advance and see if they'll let you scan your truck. Take note of the Calibration Ids (example of mine attached). The tsb PDF shows the previous/current calibration ids after applying the update.

What app is that? It doesn't look like Carista or OBD Fusion. Those are the only two that I know of that show the ECU ID and both require a purchase to do it.

    Thanks!

Autel (or better known as no-tell) AP200. It can read generic OBDII even if you don't have a vehicle unlocked which gives you even more pids.

Unfortunately not (at least not for Hyundai); I don't remember seeing that as a recent update or original coverage so you'd still need TS or Carista. It does however support all the different modules on the network and show associated PIDs. Supports some of the special functions like key learning, abs bleed, steering wheel angle calibration (probably more) but you cannot do more advanced things like reset adaptive, change customizations... etc. It's a handy little dongle and you can use your phone or tablet to view data. Update rate isn't bad but its definitely not as fast as TS or higher end scantools.

    Not bad.

The nice thing with these is the possibility of future developments.

I will try to remember to mention it when folks are looking to pull the ECU IDs.

Guys, my build date as found on driver door jam tag is 01/20. The update was 100% free of charge and took 1 hour while I waited. You can see if your truck is included by downloading the TSB in the link below (thank you Tonered!) and on the first page look at the additional info, your VIN Number positions 5, 6, 7, 8 will tell if your truck is part of this TSB. BTW, this TSB is only for 2019 and 2020 Tacoma’s.

Updated my '20 (build date 8/19) to 04B81 yesterday. Took me less than 15 minutes and I never left the driveway.

To be fair, I have Techstream already installed on my laptop and I own a Tactrix OBD cable. I followed the instructions that Tonered and shellshock have put together here.

If you have Techstream and a Tactrix, this really is as simple as it sounds. Double-click a file, follow the instructions.

    You're welcome!

The changes are too good to not get as many folks as possible flashed up.

Anyone use a cheaper cable than the tactrix?

The Tactrix is the cheapest reliable cable that we know of. Lower priced stuff are usually clones. As far as I can remember, I think one person successfully flashed with a cheap cable. At least a few soft-bricked their ECUs.

Note that the Tactrix is not a one trick pony. You can Customize the dealer only settings, use it with vF Tuner later on, and it at least works on Subarus, Mitsubishis (I know!), and Mazdas.

It takes some effort to find a reliable, cheap cable. We did that on the motorcycle side once the ECUs were cracked. Everyone bought the same cable from the same place and had good luck.

A Canadian friend was the one who found it.
