The cost might be lower because the 2020 are pre-wired for bed lights so the bed lighting kit doesn't need to include a full body harness, wire ties and other goodies like the older kits do. You just get two lights and two short harnesses that plug from the bed lights to the pre-wired plugs already in the taillight harnesses.

Do you have to add a switch in the cab?

The in bed lights I saw in the 2020 Limited I looked at operated off opening the tailgate as I recall, So I assume its all pre-wired to operate automatically when the tailgate drops down

I don't recall the tailgate having any affect, but the lights do definitely work off the same switch as the light above the bed (above the back window) so there is no need to add a switch. Does that light come on when we open the tailgate? I guess I've never noticed one way or another.

Unfortunately the bracket only comes with the camera. That fact is what is going to make swapping grilles more difficult.

If I was an entrepreneurial fellow, I would start producing the brackets needed to mount the various cameras into various grilles... maybe I can be an entrepreneurial fellow? Hmm...

They are wired into the factory cargo lighting, which already has a switch on the dash as well. For trucks without the factory cargo lighting, the instructions have you add that switch to the dash.

(One last thought regarding the SR grille, I very strongly think that mounting the camera to it will be no problem at all, if anyone is interested in doing that).

Agreed! I think we will end up with some effective solutions one way or another, which is why I held off on ordering OEM and trying to piece something together myself. But kudos to those braver than I am when it comes to DIY.

I'm wondering if these knock-off PRO grilles that running4tacos and others sells will come out with a version that allows the Sport/OR/Limited camera to mount below the TOYOTA logo. I "think" there is enough room to accommodate that but it would require a customized garnish piece, which they would also need to produce/sell. But I bet there is money to be made for any company willing to produce it. :)

Even a slightly custom/modified setup would be fine. Move the nameplate up a tad, the PCS sensor down a tad, and try to get the camera close to where it’s supposed to be. Or something along those lines.

I suspect what will actually happen is they will copy the Toyota design instead. Ah well.

Does the pro really have a different bracket? I can’t imagine they would go to that extent just for a different trim. Does anyone have pictures of the backside of a 2020 pro grille?

So if we buy the new bed lights for 2019 and below, we have to run a different harness?

I thought someone said the wiring is already in the truck (2020)- so the tiny harness in the eBay listing above just connects into the harness already behind the taillights. So I assume if we can buy the harness seperate we might?

Is that harness available for purchase so that we can hook it up to pre-2020s?
I would also assume a prewired harness (bundle with an existing harness) is difficult to get separately (bedlight wires only).

Yeah, the 2020 are pre-wired for the bed lights and have the pre-cut holes in the bed. The pre-2020 are not, which is why that bed light kit is a different part number. I think that older kit also includes a wiring harness into the cab for the cargo light switch, which the 2020 kit doesn't need. I presume one could make the 2020 kit work but would need to find a way to wire them into the truck. I guess you would have to order the full body harness that goes to the taillights? The taillight harness is where the bedlights plug in on the 2020s.

It appears so although I haven't looked at one close enough to be sure. But it's an entirely differently fabricated grille so it having a different bracket wouldn't be a huge surprise to me. The bigger issue in my mind aside from the mount is if the camera would even function properly if moved that high on a Sport/OR/Limited. Not only that, but wouldn't the camera need to be mounted inverted if mounted on top of the TOYOTA logo? Versus how it mounts underneath on a non-PRO. Would this also invert the picture? The more I think about it I can see why having different camera/mount parts starts to make more sense for the PRO grille.

I'm interested to see if anyone can hack a reasonable solution together, but personally I'm not going to if it compromises the camera system in any way. But that's just me.

Do these bed lights come on with the load lamp switch? A separate switch? Or only with the doors open? I’d like to order them but I’m curious when the lights come on.

They are wired into the cargo lamp switch so they'll come on anytime the cargo lamp does.

They work with the interior switch and the doors. Basically when your light above the rear window comes on so does the bed lights

I ordered the ones off ebay. Scheduled to be delivered wed. The ad says genuine OEM Toyota lights. Still don’t understand how they were able to get them when my dealer can’t order them yet

That’s what I was hoping. I’m just curious where the harness would plug in on trucks pre-2020
