Everything works exactly as it should…except there’s zero sound coming from the speakers. One day I got in and no sound. No crackling, no popping, just worked one day and then the next it didn’t.

I checked all of the fuses, pulled the head unit and checked the wiring, pulled the rear seats and checked the amp/sub connections, reset the head unit, reset all of the radio settings, disconnected the battery, drank some whiskey, chucked a wrench across the garage, and lost my 10mm socket. No luck.

If I were in the US, I’d have taken it to the dealer the day it happened. But I’m not and won’t be back home for another year or so. So much for that option.

I’m open to any ideas and suggestions ya’ll might have.

    Thanks

    EDIT:

-Burned through the other posts about this here, no luck.

You may find the answer you need in this thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/audio-issue-no-sound.580580/

"This exact issue happened on mine two days ago. Just riding along then no sound, red slash upper left just like yours. Turned off Bluetooth, just like you, nothing. Then I went in "Options" and I saw that both "HD Radio" and "FM Radio" were checked. I checked and unchecked those a few times, then only checked "FM"; sound came back. It was like it was causing some sort of software conflict. Before you start pulling out wires, take a look at that. Mine hasn't done it since then."

Yep, tried all that. Should have mentioned that in the initial post. I spent a while burning through the forum here (as well as Google) and read up on what others said, to include the one you posted.

Pretty much the only thing I haven’t tried yet is taking a sledge to it…which the wife recommended against.

Disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights and try to start the truck. Touch the positive and negative cables together while removed from the battery. This will drain all stored voltage from the vehicle. Reinstall battery cables and see if the radio works

…as stated in my initial post, I’m not in the US so I’m pretty much on my own.

The dealer here already told me to essentially get fucked because they don’t service (even warranty service) US spec. If I were back home in the US, it would have been taken to the dealer day one…especially when I’m only at like 6k on this piece of shit.

Have you tried to reset ? Turn it on normally. Once it’s done with its thing and it’s fully on, long press the power button for maybe 10 seconds .It should reset. Hope this helps.

It's a sign that it's time for an aftermarket head unit.

May I ask what country you are in that won't service a US spec truck?

Wondering if a call to Toyota Corporate might be helpful. I mean they are a global company. Sounds like you may have just hit upon a lazy dealer.

It would be interesting to know the difference in the sound system between US and where ever you are. I'd bet there isn't any.

    Belgium.

It could be a dealer issue, but it’s also a truck that isn’t sold in Europe lol. I’m going to assume that the wiring harnesses and tech is vastly different between the Hilux and Tacoma.

I drove an hour to the dealer that apparently services the USG leased Toyotas, but the reps inside stated that they don’t service US spec vehicles and can’t even get parts for it. When I emailed to ask what it would cost and if I could get a diagnostic quote in English, zero response. If you think a US dealer is going to bend you over, imagine not speaking/reading the language of the dealership for a vehicle they never see or work on.

There are a few places near the bases here that “service US spec vehicles” but that’s usually just your basic tires/fluids for those stationed here. I might give em a shot because I’m not a tech/multimedia guy. It could be something stupid that they find in about five minutes that I would never think to check.

I was supposed to be returning to the US at the start of this month, but that fell through. If I were leaving soon, I’d just wait it out but it looks like I’m trapped here for another 1-1.5 years lol. …so yea.

Fun Fact: Reading this post jinxed me! Last night I was driving home and the radio suddenly cut out. I thought it might have been the USB device that was plugged in (it's happened before), so I unplugged it, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in. No dice.

Then the radio stopped playing sound and the volume number wouldn't move up or down. Then I heard a ringing/humming coming from the back seat. I also have the JBL system with subwoofer.

I pulled over, put it in park and shut it off. I waited 3-4 minutes and started the truck back up and THANKFULLY that fixed it. The sound came back and everything is back to normal. But when I shut the truck off, I hear a "pop", and I'm pretty sure that came from the subwoofer/amp?
